Yes it is getting out of hand. Spammers runneth amuck! I think a nice little automated script that checks for keywords in a post would be killer. Then it could just filter out the post. I'm not familar with vBulletin, but I am very familar with php. Modify the "submit new thread/submit reply" function?

I know of some computer interest forums, (as in PC users, gamers, etc) have these type of restrictions, whereas you cannot post in the classifieds section unless you have been joined for more than 90 days, I suppose you could do the same here, with thread starters.
Make it 30 days(or better than that, say 50 posts) before one can start a thread. Make this clear during sign up, and then im sure most spammers will just not bother on this forum.
But like you mentioned Nihilist, if you need help with V Bulletin, maybe ask at some computer enthusiast foruml.

yea this shit is getting insane. i saw at least 4 new ones today. one of them was funny though at least...the russian bride one. i noticed most of the people that made the post were banned...but their post and links were still there. maybe they should get deleted right after the person gets banned? i know i've seen many of them disappear all together..but as long as their post stands...so does their ad.

Whenever the mods detect spamming, as far as I have seen they do not delete the thread, they lock it. They do that because they don't want some dickhead to keep it right up in our noses by posting in it, so that it might just die the silent death of being forgotten. Seeing as we are all exponents of doing things without the direction of rules and bans, I don't see why this way of fighting spam should even need the intervention of mods, administrators or scripts. If you don't want a new nokia blaha-jitjat-65-73 or a dildo á la alexis, don't post in them and they might even be so far down the list when a mod comes around that they don't have to give a damn, and a happy FBS, PST and powers is a happy metaltabs.com.
