Despite what certain people may tell you, black metal does have certain definable aesthetic qualities and YES you can be a black metal from the US. You can even be a black metal band from Saudi Arabia if you want and are good at hiding.
As I said before, some people may not agree (ie. your guitarist) but fuck it, this is playing music and not running an election.

I had no clue there were that many US BM bands, I must live under a large black metal obstructing rock or something!

to answer the question: No shit. i see you're from texas, like me. so check out vesperian sorrow if you like symphonic black metal. as i remember, they are from texas, which is why i mention them to you. if you dont like symphonic metal please do NOT inform me. I see "symphonic bullshit/crap" on here enough as it is.

Black metal is a world wide thing, it is not exclusive to Scandanavian countries. Xasthur, Leviathan, Demoncy and Weakling are all great American black metal bands and none of them have anything to do with how nordic culture was destroyed.
Black metal is a very diverse genre, and it all started with Venom who are from Britain.

They're probably the best American BM band, mainly cause they're from Florida ...
But yes, there can be American BM, even if the greatest are from europe.

Black metal will never really be black metal again. Black metal was more of a scene type thing like punk. Sure you can make melodic satanic songs but it wont mean the same thing, no matter if you live in America or Norway.

Perhaps not in the sense of the original Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish scene of the late 80's to mid 90's. But new Black Metal music will still be recorded and there will still be fucked up people to play it and cut themselves, desecrate graves, and drink beer(though the majority of black metal musicians are pretty much normal dudes.)
Grand Belial's Key is one of the best Black Metal bands I have heard.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Varg is released next year. Maybe some of the old mayhem fans actually will keep their promise and revenge euronymous.

Oh, I like them, especially the newer stuff. They got a new album coming this month or so, looking forward to that one.
