Still, I stand by the buried bass in seeing various live acts in the past year. I made it a major point to focus on the bass-players, moved all around the clubs to get different sound perspectives, etc. Maybe it was just the venue/PA's.
*as a side the Cliff Burton reference is excellent and something I had forgotten. Being a little er...older, I got to see Cliff play numerous times "back when" beginning with the Kill 'Em All for one tour in '84! Never had trouble hearing Cliff live!

youre probably 100% right about the individual club's sound systems. ive seen suffocation in more than one venue and the difference in the bass sound was noticeable.
thats cool you got to see cliff play. he had a pretty wild tone between the ricky and the wah.

I actually got to see him play three times. The first in NYC on the "Kill 'Em All For One" tour (with Raven and Anthrax), then on the "Ride the Lightning" and "Master..." tours respectively. He was brilliant live in form and function...and tone!! R.I.P!! |

i have always played with two fingers alternating. I am experimenting with 3 but it is very awkward right now. I can gallop really fast, so up until I get three finger technique faster than my two finger, I have just been galloping at high speeds to achieve sixteenth note triplet sections, and it sounds fine besides the slight accent of the ring finger. Its all a work in progress.
And by the way, please don't use a pick. It is easier and has a more even sound, but it also sounds like pure crap 95% of the time in my opinion.

only use picks for the sound quality, it has NO versatility.

I play the bass with 3 fingers, in this order: i-r-m-i. I have always played so. A pair of months ago I watched a Billy Sheehan's school, he plays in this order too, although he begins with other finger: r-m-i-r, but his fingers alternate in the same order
