i am rhythm guitar in a band right now but im a bassist at heart, thats what i started on and i love bass solos...but the problem is our bassist cant really play them at the moment..sometimes i wonder why im not the bassist cuz i can play better than him...im not saying im awesome but i play like machine gun scales n stuff, heavily influenced by primus...but i guess slapping wouldnt work with our style of music..meh...

im not a big fan of bass solo's unless its something with melody like the thing that Jason Newstead plays in the Metallica "Cunning Stunts" DVD.
The way shit goes in my head, the bass is a rhythm and melody instument. I'd much rather groove a melody behind a solo then solo myself, cause if im soloing, where's the song I mean, do you really wanna rely on a GUITARIST to hold down the fort?

Ok if you are gonna refer to metallica dont refer to newstead always Burton( kill em all, master of puppets, ride the lightning, there was some way better bass work on those rather than the black album or justice) man!!! and i just wanted to know if i was one of the few people who can really appreciate a good bass solo.

i myself think heavy/ thrash and power metal dont really need solos, just need good grooves, Death and progressive metal on the other hand thrive on good bass parts otherwise its just guitar which can sometimes not be enough
