Well, of course I just clasify standard tuning as tuning to the whole perfect fourth(except for that shitty B string). Anyways, a lot of bands use variations of standard tuning and the only reason I wouldn't classify it as standard is when they tune to a chord for like slide guitar or the whole dropping the lowest tone(only the lowest) by two half-steps which I classify as kind of lame, if you can't do it regularly then you don't need to be doing it. I fall victim to the "drop D" one finger power chords only when I'm really drunk. About Opeth they seem to me to tune to the whole D G C F A D on a few of their songs but I know they use E A D G B E plenty as well. They use of course Hungarian minor/Diminished/Harmonic minor/standard minor scales. And of course the occasional pentatonic. But I am from the same state as Rusty Cooley(Outworld) so eh. He insulted the dropping of the lowest tone about the same as I do. Anyways.

Hmmm, oh well. It doesn't sound like he uses drop D, though - y'know how drop D power chords sound slightly more aggressive than standard power chords and all.
Interesting.

Cephalic Carnage tune to B. Goratory certainly don't sound like they tune to Eb either.

currently my main guitar is in E standard but there's only so many songs from certain bands you can play. I'm thinkin about tuning to B so I can play Cephalic Carnage, Cryptopsy, Carcass, Devolved and Drop A for Nile but then I can't play Opeth, Psycroptic and Martyr. It's a tough decision. This is why I want to get another 7-String that's of really good quality.

I usually am tuned to B Flat..whether on a 6 or 7 string. I love having the standard tuned guitar though for a more (don't laugh) timeless feel I guess. Its just fun to rock out that way as well, because thats how I learned!!

Didn't read anything past the second page, but I tune normal. However, I have a seven string so I don't have to tune down.

I like playing in standard. As soon as I get my other guitar in shape again, I might tune that into D or C#

Personally my main guitar(ESP) I like to tune to D G C F A D. . . It gives a slightly lower tone of course and I stack it with .01 gauge DR strings(or GHS if I'm broke) the PRS(crappy PRS. . . until I get a Platinum VISA and in debt) I tune to E A D G B E with .009 gauge Fender bullets(give off that nice bluesy tone I want for it) and that seems to keep my sound the way I like it, plus as I've said before whenever I play on .009's I can do riffs that are slightly tougher(on the .01) with great ease. . . It helps to use heaver strings with lower tuning it adds more all in all but when I tune to E it gets a little bit tougher on the ESP. . . Opeth they do great things. . . sorry just finished listening to some of their stuff, they use mainly standard E A D G B E but at times I'm quite sure they drop tuning to D G C F A D, but eh, that's why rich pricks own so many guitars, because they are too lazy to retune during a session.

Thank you for clarifying. . . Music isn't one universal language and doesn't have the exact same terms used to describe it or how it functions(Yeah I know I sound like the Guitar Grimoire guy) Anyways Thanks.
