masterbation is a great wrist exercise

erm in seriousness, I always got told doing things aorta like 16ths or 16th triplets for ages rather than trying to do 32nds for short periods is very good for you.

Get a set of weights and work out, and get drumstick weights, and use heavy sticks for about a year. Then after about a year you'll be able to play pretty well. Also (this is stupid as hell) but listen to Green Day, learn to play their stuff. That helped me get technical FAST.

1) everything will come slow at first. you MUST keep your head and dont get discouraged.
2) only you are in control of how good you want to be.
3) practice with your hands, sticks or whatever is in your hands. you will eventually pick up your own technique. you will end up practicing and you dont even realize you're doing it. get the "nervous leg" ( when you sit and bounce your legs up and down that drives everyone crazy )
4) as far as an excercise?????go crazy on your friggin kit. you just might surprise yourself. hit every tom once with one hand followed by the other, before you know it, you are working on getting some good speed.
5) JUST KEEP THE FAITH, YOU BOUGHT A KIT BECAUSE YOU WANTED ONE.

Not really a good idea. You should play with sticks that are comfortable for you and not too heavy unless you want to hurt your wrists.

1)Get a teacher. A teacher can help you quite a lot.
2) Start with simple exersises. Persist. Once you get an exerise down well, don't abandon it. My teacher played for 20 years and he still does the exersises he gives me religiously. Walk before you crawl and get the basic thing down right.
3)Don't rush into trying to play songs that you like. Start with simple shit. I have a couple of CDs I'd never listen to in my sane state (gothic pop rock! ARGH) but they have simple beats that are easy to start with and transcribe for the first time, so they are useful.
4)Invest in a metronome.
5)Learn basic music theory. It will help an assload, and get into the habit of counting when you play.

On the wanking thing, I know a dude who does it like for an hour a day. He used to drum too. The poor devil is circumsised.

it is a thing that you can set to a certain BPM and it goes 'click click click click.......' to that BPM, it is quite good for doing rudiments and double kick work to.

That's pretty primitive. They are now generally electronic. You can buy or burn metronome CDs, they come with a set of most widely used bpms, quite useful.

most guitar tuners now have metronomes aswell, so if you play guitar on the side (like some people here) kill 2 birds with one stone!

When you first start playing drums you need to keep it basic. dont try to learn a million beats, just pick a simple beat and play it over and over again with a metronome (to help your timing). First start out slow then pick up the tempo alittle bit once you get the hang of it. Then once you master that try adding some cool fills and stuff to it. Then once you can do all that experiment with different beats using the same idea. Also try playing with the radio. Just rember that timing is one of the most important things when it comes to drums. And you should get a drum teacher or read a book on how to hold your stick and stuff because its also important to use good technique. With good technique you can play stuff easier and faster.

I hope that made sense
