i have heard that if you clean your strings with metho you can getting them sounding like new. just take them off and soak them in it for 12-24 hours, wipe with a paper towel and leave to dry. it's meant to remove all the grease, dirt, skin and what not from your strings, but since it has no water in it your strings won't rust. effectively the only reason you'll need to replace your strings is because of fret wear(thats if it works though) i'll be giving it a try later, i'll tell ya how it goes.
also don't boil your strings in water to clean them

I don't have enough time to soak them for 12 hours.

when you buy a new set of strings because your old set are sounding dull keep the old ones and soak em in metho for the 12-24 hours that way when you can just start switching and cleaning. i'm going to start doing that with my strings now

yes i'm sure it would work pretty well for cleaning your strings, and getting them to rust too. boiling the water will just help the oxidation process just a little chem for ya. metal + water = rust and H2 (the hydrogen atoms are let off as a gas)

i doubt it'd 100% stainless steel there'd be other metals in it that could rust
also stainless steel does rust, all metal rusts, its just that the rust from stainless steel is actually stronger than stainless steel itself so it doesn't weaken and flake off like other metals do when they rust

If you boil the strings, they will not rust.
