I hated E.T. as a kid, but really because it made me bawl like a fucking kid watching his parents die. Seriously, I would cry hysterically until I was carried out of the room and even still, I would hold onto whatever was near me to resist. I watched it recently, maybe 4 years ago and it was cool, but damn, I have tormented memories that even a severe rape victim doesn't have.
