Oh well for that budget, just go look for $1000-dollar basses on 2nd-hand sites.
Or MusicMan-subs. But really, going for 2nd-hand 1K-basses would be the best deal now.
Oh and hmmm, the Squier-basses on that site (almost) all have Agathis-wood. Well if you use pedals and stuff that's not too bad, but it adds nothing to the tone, and dents easily.
