I don't know the exact reason, it's some law of physics/electronics. 2 8 ohm loads are the same as 1 4 ohm load. Just like:
1*8ohm cab = 2*16ohm cabs
1*16ohm cab = 2*8Ohm cabs
It sounds ridiculous I know but it's true, it's just how impedance works. You add 2 16 ohm cabs together and you do NOT get a 32 ohm load, you get an 8 ohm load.
