Each line of the tab represents a string of the guitar as follows:

e|--- B|--- G|--- D|--- A|--- E|--- 6th string (thickest, deepest sounding)

Time flows from left to right and the numbers represent the frets that you need to place your fingers. For chords, the numbers line up vertically, for example E minor:

e|--0--| B|--0--| G|--0--| D|--2--| A|--2--| E|--0--|
