Sounds like Atheist's Elements
I really like how the album Elements, by Atheist, blends metal and jazz fusion, however, I can't find anything with a similar sound. I am not looking for bands similar to Atheist in general, I listen to a lot of other technical death metal and thrash metal bands. I enjoy thrash and technical death metal but I am specifically looking for something that incorporates a lot of jazz elements. If you know of any bands/albums with this sounds please let me know,
thanks, -Thaddeus |
Try Candiria and Yakuza. They're nothing like Atheist - they both hail from the same scene as The Dillinger Escape Plan - but they do incorproate a lot of jazz into their sound.
Of course there's Naked City as well, whose number includes none other than John Zorn. Naked City spin all sorts of influences into their sound: grind, metal and free-form jazz amongst others. Hope they're the sort of recommendations you're looking for. |
Check out the album And if... by the french band Dro˙s. Doesn't sound exactly like Elements, but then again what does? Dro˙s are atmospheric and definitely incorporate jazz stylings into their music; should be a worthwhile listen regardless.

Thanks guys, great suggestions.

Don't know if this anything near what you're after? I'd recommend to check out a couple of their songs to get a feel for 'em.

They're pretty cool, the rapping threw me off in the beginning but the rest of the song was great. Thanks
|
Yea, it does feels a bit odd to begin with, but it has definitely grown on me and they don't use it all that much in their songs so it's not a major issue anyway. In this song, though, I think he does a good job of it and it fits pretty well in the context and on a fourth listen.

I'm sure you're already aware of Cynic, but just in case...
|
Yes, I was going to say Cynic, but I felt it was probably too obvious. So, anyway, again..
CYNIC |
I am aware of cynic, they are awesome, good suggestion.

How familiar are you with Watchtower? They broke on the scene well before Cynic and Atheist with a really awesome jazz/thrash/prog metal sort of thing. They aren't as heavy as Cynic or Atheist, but just as good as far as I'm concerned.

I'm only vaguely familiar with Watchtower, definitely need to give them another listen.

Any of Ron Jarzombek's work should blow your load.
