String guage recommendations
 

Hey ho, Me and my fellow guitarist have just brought a cheap bass from a friend, but it's only a four string and we tune to B standard. Any recommendations on a suitable string guage????
Couldn't tell you whats on it, hes a major tight arse and probably hasn't changed them in years..
I thought of using the low strings from a 5 string set but i'll have to modify the nut to accomadate the low E (B), and really didn't want to go down that road........ Any help would make me very happy!!! :beer:

You won't have much choice. Anything under .120 will be maaaaajorly floppy tuned to B. And most nuts really don't need refiling (which isn't a big labour anwyway), so just buy a set of 5 strings. Try going with a .125, like I said, shoudln't need refiling, and even if it does, you'll just need to take a nail-file and file on the left and right of the cut like twice.
