Achieving Dave Ellefson's tone
I want to get the same tone that Ellefson uses in Peace Sells. I own his signature Peavey bass and I have effects software at my disposal (it does a bunch of different things like delay, reverb, compression, modulation, EQ, as well as many different amps and heads). I can come somewhat close to the tone, but I just cannot nail the right combination of effects and tone adjustments to get it right. For reference purposes, his bass during Peace Sells sounds like this.

I posted this in another thread, and decided to post it here to help you understand why it's usually difficult to get the exact same tone somebody else has.

Yeah but still, the major guidelines would apply.
Say, fur Justin Chancellor, you could get as close as possible on your amp turning up the mids and bass alot, for Interpol you would need a lot of treble and XXXX khz, ... SO it's not completely useless. |

Oh I know, it's not completely useless... but it's impossible to get the exact same tone as another bass player. You can sometimes get quite close, but in the end it usually comes down to personal style and technique. |
