Equipment used, for those interested:

Preamps- M-Audio Octane
Pro Tools LE with Digi 002 (never use the pres they suck)
3 Auidix i5 on toms
1 i5 on snare
1 Beta 52 on Kick
2 4050 overheads

hmm, the kick sounds like it has too much attack in comparison to the rest of the kit

DW kits have pretty fat sounding kicks. All the preamps were set to the same level, but the kick was EQed to get a good metal click.

It's the sound of the room. The kick is isolated since its inside the kick drum.

I love the beat you did on the actual band song around the 3:00 mark. The speeding up and slowing down kick drums, that's sick.

The kick drum sounds nice and fat on the solo, but it does sound a little too powerful in comparison to the rest of the kit. I know you're not looking for ideas on your recording methods, but it's a little hard to hear the quality of your solo with that in mind = /

I kind of came up with that on the spot. I figured if the guitar was doing triplets to 16ths I should too. Ha!
