Another boring thread with boring question about boring dm vocals...
Yo.
I was listening to one rather not-well known polish band, Abused Majesty. Well, ok, they're BM, the thread is about DM vocals, so wtf is going on here? Here's the question: Their second vocal is something like deep growl, but with normal, low voice in it. Ive heard a lot of such vocals, but i can't do em. I can do growls, gutterals, something like early Barnes and shit, but i have no fucking clue how to do that shit. Any tips? Here's the link to their mp3. http://www.evilmachine.e9.pl/abused...of_serpents.mp3 It's the 1st vocal which comes in. I guess it is, if i didn't fucked up the tracks, lol. So, any tips are kindly welcome. The band is quite interesting too :) |
Whoa, guys! Thanks for so much answers, it will take ages for me to read it all.
And seriously - I was hoping you will gimme tips, such as open/close throat, tongue position, project less/more etc... Anyone? |
He's doing standard gutturals but with what sounds like a bit of pitching. It definitely is more open throat.
|
sounds more like a closed throat guttural to me.
|
should i add more or less voice?
|
More voice.
|
it's basicly a guttural with more actual vocal tone involved.
which involves closing the throat when annunciating rather then with lips, although you still will need to use your lips. be careful though as this could probably damage your chords over time. where as normal open gutturals don't scrape the vocal chords nearly as much. |
I don't know how you get this certain sound SBTT but I achieve it my opening my throat more. Eh. Try both ways.
|
when i open my throat the vocal gets cleaner, and after I do vocals for a good 5 minutes the vocals themself start to get grittier, so basicly after warming up they get a good gritty tone.
