R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner

May I add it sucks that Chuck had no health insurance to cover his medical costs, and this being a factor in his recovery and untimely death made me really wake up and realize I needed a backup plan because my dreams of making money from music got a huge slap in the face. I remember all too well: everyone thought he was getting better and out of nowhere, the news came. I still think it's fucked up, to this day.

Let's never forget Chuck. He was a brilliant artist, lyricist, and musician among many things, who was metal 100% of the way and yet defied the trappings and conventions of what a 'metalhead' was supposed to be. He seemed like an awesome human being, it sucks that I never got a chance to meet him like I wanted to. I'm sure many of you people here feel the same way.

I should have gone to see Death in the late 90's, at the show that was filmed for the "Live & Raw" DVD at The Whiskey, I had the chance. Now, it's never to be.

Filtering out the bad that holds us back...
Take hold of what is true to your hunger
A hunger that will not go away
Plans for tomorrow, they will remain

- "Perennial Quest", from the "Symbolic" album.

Those were and always will be some of my favorite lyrics ever that Chuck wrote, I think about them frequently...

In closing, blast the entire Death discography all day.

What a tragedy, that Chuck had to leave us at so young an age, and in the way he did, no less. The sad thing is, we may never have gotten to see the full extent of his genius. For if he has lived longer, who knows where his works would have taken him?

Awesome write-up, by the way, Sycophant.

Im listening to Symbolic as we speak. My God, what an emotive album. RIP, Evil Chuck. Your legacy lives on. You are an inspiration to more people than you would have ever imagined.

Perhaps the greatest loss for metal ever.

RIP

I wish that guy was still here man cause he died b4 I even got into metal I realy wanted to see the live it suks cause a lot of people have never heard of him if headbanger's ball wasn't gay than this week they should play some death So It was a terrible loss but the music and the interviews and music videos are still here

I don't mean to dwell
But I can't help myself
When I feel the vibe
And taste a memory
Of a time in life
When years seemed to stand still

I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence

Symbolic from Symbolic - one of my favorite lyrics of his
In the words of Chuck "Let the metal flow"

One of the best guitarist/songwriters. Real shame how he died. Real shame he died at all.

RIP Chucky.

I was going to make this thread at 12am, but I was drunk and passed out around 11am with Scream Bloody Gore playing.:p

DEATH RULES THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....and that's gotta be the greatest pun in the world!!!!!!

What's the point of you guys calling him "Evil" Chuck? Can't you guys read?? Take hold of my favorite lyrics.....

Dark skies were beating me down
With shadows of deceit slashing at
Trust till it forever bleeds
With doubt, with pain, with trust
Is Pain

If you think of me in your
Multidimensional mind try and wash the
"Evil" from your mind and open it:lhdevil:
When you taste the truth you will
See like others before me, to you
I am past, a story to tell
Tell it!

-Chuck

PAH you stole mine!
A story to tell by Death is the shit beyond shits. One day i'll actually finally finish ear tabbing that 1st solo.

I must say death has been one of the biggest influences on me EVER. Believe it or not it was the like 2nd metal band i had ever listened to (2nd to Iron Maiden).

The magnatude as a writer and moer importantly as a composer of just about EVERY aspect of "their" music says quite a bit. I attempt to strive at similar things to what Chuck did. I definately 2nd the notion that had he not died, there is no fucking telling how amazing the cds would have gotten. I mean its almost agreeable by most that their cds got better and better after each one. (in i would assume alot of peoples eyes, at least in mine)

Blood Red Bass 2006-12-13 14:24

Nobody better fuck this one up like the Dimebag thread (I'm looking at you Dystopia).

R.I.P. Chuck.

What can I say?

JOAMdude 2006-12-13 15:37

I'm listening to the death CD's that i have starting from his latest, TSOP, to leprosy. It was a real shame that he died before i got into metal and for that matter a bunch of other people. I would have liked to go to a show or meet him. Chuck always supported music and stayed true to what he loved. He was content with the life he lived, which was obviously not a particularly rich or had a ecure financial position. RIP, Chuck, your music will continue to inspire people to play and keep wishing for a bigger discography.

RIP

RIP Chuck, I remember when I first heard of Death is was in a guitar player mag, reading the an article about his death. I remember thinking "that's a silly name for a band, and the lead vocalist/guitarist died..how odd." Around this time I was getting into different genres of dm, with ATG, Atheist, Martyr, ect. A very short while later I finally downloaded the songs Symbolic and Spirit Crusher. And album buying/listening into obsession from then on.

The pioneer of Death metal he was, and he'll never get the credit he rightfully deserves. RIP.

philkilla 2006-12-13 16:56

Sadly I did not get into death until after the death of chuck (A.D.C.)...but, his music lives on and I hope the best for his family.

R.I.P.
