Melodic Black Metal

Ok, none of this "raw gr1m" shit..and other than COF and DB(which I don't really care for, but that is my business), what are your favourite melodic black metal bands? I want to get more into the genre, so please help one another out.

Shade Empire(more so their first cd, it's amazing)
Twilight Opera(more so their last cd)
Blinded By Faith
Catamenia
Mourn In Silence(except I think you have to email the band to get their cds)

I think I just enjoy powerful sounding keyboards sometimes with metal, they just can add so much more substance.

And there are so many bands I find that are similar to this genre..L3T D@ F/\5 I]@N{3 83G1N!!

Blood Red Bass 2006-08-07 15:59

Borknagar!

Transient 2006-08-07 16:11

naglfar

moe_blunts 2006-08-07 16:20

nagElfar > naglfar

malleus maleficarium
nocternity
drudkh
xasthur

(last 3 are atmospheric rather than melodic.)

Blood Red Bass 2006-08-07 16:42

I wish other bands came up with names that were just as fun to pronounce. :p

BassBehemoth 2006-08-07 20:01

Come on girls..where are the other bands? Where are the bands that sound like Catamenia?? :spider:

Old Mans Child?

Blood Red Bass 2006-08-07 21:12

Would Mystic Forest qualify as melodic black metal? I have heard one song by them and thought it was very good.

BassBehemoth 2006-08-07 21:44

Never heard of Mystic Forest, I'm trying to find some mp3's online.

I was never a big fan of OMC, I guess I'm looking for more of a symphonic black metal band.

Nonetheless, thanks guys for the replies.

Xasthur
Lurker of Chalice
Leviathan

Arcturus [especially old]
Limbonic Art
Tartaros
Dodheimsgard [Satanic Art EP & 666 International]

There are plenty of other excellent melodic/symphonic BM bands I really dig but I can't remember them all right now.

xasthur are raw, and boring. very very boring.

and Transient spelled Naglfar right. but i dont think this is what BassB is looking for either.

try Dragonlord's new album
listen to skyfire (again)
try Stormlod
refresh your memory on Illnath, it was long ago
i mentioned Asguard the other night, more like symphonic death
try Graveworm
try ...And Oceans
try Nightshade
Embraced
Astarte
Agathodaimon
Old mans child (the pagan prosperity, and Ill natured spiritual invasion)

True Xasthur is raw, but it's as melodic as i get.
He is pretty boring most of the time. But when something is good it's really good.

Kovenant? Would they be considered melodic black metal?

I don't know the difference between all the black metal sub-genres.

moe_blunts 2006-08-08 12:39

There's a Nagelfar and a Naglfar. Moe blunts was just saying Nagelfar is better.

Dyvim Tvar 2006-08-08 23:49

I don't listen to much BM, but Emperor's "Prometheus" changed my fucking life! Can't believe I missed out on seeing them!
