police action against grave diggers
okay so this shred_head shitte has been diggin up years old threads..
lot's of n00bs do it.. are they ignorant? Nomad, maybe it's possible to pop-up a window when someone replies to a thread more than 6 months old? Something to the sense of: "Warning: This thread is (x time) old. Why don't you use the search function for a more recent thread?" And if the n00b clicks okay, a second pop-up opens "Digging up old threads might cause banning, nausea, ridicule and internal hemmorage. Hey, it's your doctors bill!" |
Why is it even annoying, it dosn't affect me one bit because I have a 'scroll-bar' I can move straight past them.
|
It's not annoying. People on the internet are never satisfied unless they can assume the role of forum regulars and enforce arbitrary netiquette. Keep in mind that many of the same people who complain about this complain about making a new thread when there's an existing thread on the same topic. They won't be happy even if nobody did anything objectionable, so the best strategy is to leave them unsatisfied but with the ability to complain, which is all they really want, this being the internet.
|
Sometimes it is alright to bring back old threads, But he expected an answer to a question by someone who posted like 3 years ago. Or post a random few-word post in a 3 year old thread.
There really isnt much to do about it i guess though, you could put it in a sticky and it wouldnt always get read. Im not really sure how much Vbulletin can be modified either, so the popup idea may not be possible. What would be handy is if before you posted in each part of the forum for the first time, you HAD to read the rules of that section, or you couldnt continue to the forums. But again, probably not possible |
Well anyway, here is a great idea.
How about, some sort of system that deletes accounts when they are 'x' years old? That would save so much space, as so many people sign up and post like, once. What do you think? |
should probly make it 4 years then it gets deleted
|
That's been suggested several times before. According to nomad the old user accounts take up no space and don't matter.
|
END SARCASM.
Omg. |
Should have picked up on that. Eh, hopefully somebody who came by, read that suggestion, and thought it was a great idea will be shut down by my post.
|
on a different forum i post at theres mandatory (light) suspension if someone replies with an unnecessary reply after 30 days. maybe something like that?
|
I'd like to suspend both the people who dig up old threads for no reason and the people who complain about it. That would be quite pleasant, actually, but a little too far past the over-modding line, even for me.

heh, that sounds weird comming from you. It's like the tale of Red Ridinghood: "and the wolf said: i'm not going to eat you!" ;) |
definitely the lamest reason i've ever seen someone get suspended. most people just dig up one or two threads and then don't post again. even more so, sometimes the topic is worth discussing again
|
If old threads are brought up again who cares. If the thread is at an end then a mod will close it. If not it remains open to help others that my have questions to ask in the future. Its really not a big problem imo.
|
It`s kinda fucked when someone brings up a 3 year old thread just to call someone who hasn`t been here in forever a faggot for not liking his favorite band though.
|
So therfore the problem is not the resurection of old threads, but instead - stupid users.

That. |
It takes exactly 4 seconds of your time to tell if a thread is 2 years old. And 7 more seconds to ask a mod to close it.
