I think the time may have come for my chance to buy a new axe. The music shop here is having a sale, a big sale, 15-80% off!

I can get a ESP M200FM for $900, usually its like $1200 or something (new zealand dollars)

It seems like what i want, neck thru, nice shape, flamed maple. Tremelo. It has EMG HZ pups though, im gonna have a look at their jacksons, they dont stock ibanez (cunts),

Any other suggestions to check out?

metal_monkey 2005-12-06 03:06

Haha you bastards!

Truth is that there are rarely even Ibanez guitars floating around for sale 2nd hand, if there are its just pretty crap models.

Im goin into the music shop today hopefully.

I may leave with a new electric, acoustic with a cutaway, or an amp or pedal of some sort

True dat, I've been trying to steal a decent used Ibanez with a floyd but they're hard to find on ebay. I find lots of RG270s but the bridges on those are crap... I want an RG 470 or 550 for cheap, but that's not gonna happen... so I'll just lurk around to get myself a Kramer FR 242 or 244.

What guitar/brand was this? I really want a cheap but decent floyd guitar, preferably from a brand name. I'm watching an Ltd. M-100 on ebay that has a fucking ugly finish, but I hear the neck is fast and the bridge is decent. I really, really want a Kramer striker. :p

Does anybody know much about the Ibanez GAX series? Are they any good for playing metal with? How do they compare to the Ibanez RG series? Any comments appreciated.

Soeru 2005-12-12 04:48

Well I just got me a BC Rich NJ Ironbird for $150, joy. Retails for 450$ new... Floyd bridge, chesswood body, maple neck... and paying that little puts one hell of a smile on my face. I've always wanted an Ironbird, now I have one, on top of that: with a Floyd. :D

Hey guys,

I'm having thoughts of buying a new guitar and I'm on a low budget. I've checked around a few stores here in Sweden and wanted to ask about your opinion on this guitar.

"Jackson JS-Series JS300DKT Dinky w/ Hardtail". Obviously, Jackson is a good brand, and I believe that is one of their lower range guitars, the price is about 300 USD, converted from Swedish money, might not be 100%, but it's around there.

So my question is if the guitar is worth it? Hows the pickups etc?

I'm pretty sure that guitar beats the living crap out of the one I have now, which is some Cort guitar I bought ages ago.

Other recommendations around that pricerange is also welcome.

Js300? I think it might be JS30...

Well if it's the same line, I have a Jackson JS30 Kelly which cost me 300$ new with tune-o-matic style bridge and strings through body, not hardtail. The guitar you're looking at is probably the same exact thing as mine, just a strat body style and fixed-bridge type, but I have the feeling they're both using the same quality of woods because they both cost 300$ and both have "JS30" in their model number.

Don't understimate Cort guitars, or any no-name brand guitars, someone here bought a Cort 7-string and said it was one of the greatest axes he's ever played.

It might be a good guitar but I'd get it used to get it a bit cheaper.

Midwinter-Gates 2005-12-13 20:40

Hey,

Yeah it's a JS30, no idea why I wrote 300. Uhm, you don't happen to know what the "Hardtail" thing means? And since you have a JS30, could you tell me some about the guitar of yours?

Some info regarding the neck, pickups and so on would be greatly appreciated.

I feel this is probably the guitar I should look more into considering my budget, and getting a used one is no bad idea, but I haven't yet found anyone who has one for sale, preferrably in Sweden and with the Strata shape.

But I'm open for other guitars too, I've heard good things about Ibanez too.

And I agree about the last part about underestimating, was a mistake to rack down on Cort :(

Hardtail is the bridge type that Les Paul guitars have. It's a flat thing behind the bridge that you screw down to hold the strings in place. See this: http://guitar-masters.com/Guitars/G...Les-Paul-58.JPG or this: http://www.jam.se/images/gibsonexplorer90beg.jpg

String-through is like this, my guitar: http://www.musikland-online.de/pix/...e1170477385.jpg

You basically load the strings through the back of the guitar, they go through the body. Supposedly this gives more sustain.

I thought all JS30 Dinkys had a Floyd Rose bridge, like this one: http://www.sound1.no/images/product...ckson_js_30.jpg

But whatever. 300$ is what I payed for mine, and it seems to be the same exact model just a different body.

My JS30 Kelly is a brilliant guitar. Very thin neck(though also not very wide, so if you have big hands it takes a bit to get used to). Low action, very easy to adjust and play with the strings real low with no buzz. The pickups are ok, they're 2 of the same kind so it's nothing special. You'll want to replace them eventually. It's very basic but it kicks ass, 300$ is a fine price but try to see
if you can get it cheaper used.

Btw, JS30 Jacksons are also available in V, RR V, and Warrior style bodies, and in 3 different colors, but the features are exactly the same.

Midwinter-Gates 2005-12-14 01:51

Thanks alot man, excellent review. I'll definitely settle for the JS30 now. I'll both look out for a new and used one.

Again, thanks alot, this made everything so much more clear.

Jacksons: KE-3 vs DXMG

can't play, but want to...
want to buy, but can't choose...

vs

Any recommendations?

PutridWinds 2005-12-21 14:16

I have the DXMG, it's a great guitar, good tone, good playability, the tremelo unit is a bit of a pain in the ass but i'm guessing both guitars have the same tremelo anyway.
