http://yellow.impunity.co.kr/~shelter/lostto.mp3
here's the mp3 file. my version of dark tranquillity's lost to apathy i'm a 17 year old girl and i'm new to this... i know i'm not good and i'm hoping for good tips. i live in korea so it's hard to get help... especially on the part where it's sort of a 'whisper' .. ".. look at the shell that is you... empty fragile weak... " god i really sound awful on this part. and i don't know anything about recording (i used vocal cut and a cheap mic) so please ignore the crappy sound... :( |
That was great. I wish I got voice like that. :( Then my songs would sound very EEVIIIILL!! :vampire:
|
Not a bad voice at all. Pretty cool. But sounds like you need a little help with vowels...like Oooos instead of Ahhhs.....like that. Not much though....:)
|
that was really good. i thought u sang it better than he did. just work on the low notes a little and get the whisper part down and ull be in amazing shape!
|
Sounds amazing!
|
I was just wondering...I know that its all personal preference and everything...but does anybody REALLY like not being able to understand the vocals?? I just dont get it...
|
I can understand the lyrics ... I think she's actually quite clear.
|
You mean that people can understand, and more importantly like, neanderthal grunts and screams?? call me old-fashioned, but I dont think i will ever get it...
|
woah... thanks for all the compliments and advices... i'll keep the tips in mind. and junkhead, maybe if you think about abstract art... or impressionism... people back then didn't agree on those either. of course it would be just a matter of taste. i understand you tho

Damn ... if you don't like extreme metal, why the hell are you even here :p I don't mean to sound hostile, but accusations of "neanderthal" have been hoisted onto my favourite musics ... You can scream/growl, anyone can do it, but can you sound like Phil Anselmo, Steve Tucker or Jens Kidman? Just as you can talk at different pitches ... but you're not going to sound like a professional vocalist. The only difference : With singing vocalists, the instrument ( voice ) is being used to convey melody. With modern extreme metal vocalists, the voice is being used to convey rythm. One conveys the chiming of a bird, the other conveys the clap of a thunderstorm ... It becomes a percussive instrument. |
youre pretty damn good especialy for a girl if you lived around here ide take you as my singer in a heartbeat heh some advice, if youre looking for a band you should (im not sure if you can already or not so bear with me) learn to sing. the most desirable vocalists are those who can get heavy and soft.
|
oh my god! haha you sound really good. not like a woman at all
you did a fantastic job, and i cant think of anything to really point out that you did wrong. |

You're old fashioned. |

Did you play the guitar parts and the drum parts as well?? It doesn't sound like it, cuz it sounds like the original song. Did you use vocal cut to cut out the lead vocals so you can add your voice?? What mic did you use? Did ya use a SM-58 or something and connect to a mic preamp? Your voice echoed at the end so your using some effects as well. Your voice is good. |
Thats really good! are you a fan of Angela Gossow?
|
thanks again for all the tips and comps... ;)
oh and Cherub, i did use vocal cut and i used a very cheap computer mic :( i gave the echo with cool edit pro. Tattered, yes i do like Angela she's amazing. metal musician, thanks for the tip. i am working on my singing but hell, its hard as well :bawling: |
this one also... (mp3 linked)
http://yellow.impunity.co.kr/~shelter/eyeless.mp3
hey i'm the same girl from below here's slipknot's eyeless that i sang. (no.. 'blabbered out' to be exact :() apart from my weak voice, GOD i'm having such a hard time inhaling... how can you inhale so fast? you can hear that i keep on getting off beat and sound pathetic (and of course, run out of breath as well). i think slipknot songs are harder just to sing than melodic death. |
you wont have so many fans with this one im afraid
|
well i never consider myself good i'm just trying :)
the reason i linked the files is because it saves all the trouble describing my problems in words... not to get compliments |
I'm going to be straightforward and honest, I'm assuming that's the sort of opinion you are looking for anyway :
The screams are quite full, but your spoken voice just does'nt do it for me. A word about Corey Taylor though : Emulating his vocal stylings may not be the wisest ... as he's totally blown his voice out now. All in all, considering you were having an off day ( we're musicians, we all have them ), you did a good job. You certainly do have a future in this, so keep practicing. And as a future reference, when you are giving us your vocal tracks, anything considered "nu-metal" is not going to be very well received : I think there's about two members here that like Slipknot. The rest hate Slipknot, basically. As Transient said, the fact that we don't like Slipknot, alone, is probably going to have an effect on our opinion. Any of the bands you see listed in the tablatures section are considered fair game, however, and will be most conducive to objective opinions. |
