Do you guys put the snare skin tighter when you play death metal or black metal very fast?
CAN you play faster with a tighter skin?
and what about the tune, when you tighten it up the tunes goes higher too, is it possible to prevent that?
thanks:beer:

A tighter skin on the snare makes a nicer sound defintely a slayer/pantera sound.

I am kind of new to drums, so don't worry that I am retarde or something if I ask this dumb question, but... Does it matter what the tunning is in the snare, or can you set it to whatever the hell you feel like setting it to?

i dont think the tone really matthers, if you want to know wheter your kit is 'tuned' right the drum must sound the same on every point at the edge of the skin.
im bored so ill draw you an example:
drumskin + sound:
___poink______
I I
poink: I I
I I pooonk <------this one needs tuning
I I
I____________I
poink
when they all sound POINK your skin is tuned.

fucking christ!!!!
not working, fucking board, fuck.
anyway: the image should be a square resembling a drumskin.
at every side of the skin it should sound like poink, but at one side it sounds like poonk, this side obviously needds tuning. Get it?

ya, and your bass and snare should be the same. tune the bass drum to the low e on the bass guitar, then tune the snare to the bass drum but an octave higher. got it? i'm not sure on how to tune the toms.

i have tom1 one tone lower than the snare, and tom2 one tone lower than tom1, and the floor tom a couple of tones lower. i kicked through my bass recently and i just turned it around, so now it sounds like a very brief but hard fart every time you play:D

but the original question of me was if you could play faster DM riffs when you tighten your skin so the stick bounces faster?

hmmm, your probably right doctor. The tighter the skin, the more bounce you'll get. But eitherway, i play electronic drums, so luckily i don't have to worry about that shit. Even though i do have an acoustic set.

Yeah I am pretty sure that if you tighten it, it will make your stick bounce more. But I am not possitive, I would think that it would though.

seems logic

seems logical that it would put your drum set out of tune

Yeah that seems logic too. :p Oh well.

Someone who's been drumming since the 60s told me that you have to tune it so the toms (don't remember about the other ones) were tuned ½ a note lower (like maybe the 1st tom would be in C, next in B, and next in A....i think it was like that...
