Is it legal to record a cover of a song and distribute the cd? As long as the proper credits are given, would it be legal?
I'm pretty sure that if I record a cover on a demo, I could not sell it for profit. However, could I still distribute it to record companies and such?
I wanna put a cover on my demo, (I might do Fear of the Dark, by Iron Maiden) but I don't wanna make a big mess just to do it.........

yeah as long as you give the credit and dont make a profit off it like you said its cool
They cant possibly have a problem with ou not making any money off of their music. However, putting a cover on a demo seems to me to send the wrong message.

Well, I would include it at the end just to show more of what my style is. I always thought the intro of that song would sound cool with some heavy synth or organ put in.
Maybe I'll replace the solo guitar part with a keyboard lead (not my own lead, but the same solo just on keys).......

yeah, its cool to change it.
in music class, the y have this example CD, and in the middle of the songs they have sudden fade outs and ins to avoid copiright shit.
its ittitating but legal
What you should do is probably take some chunk of time, find a book on copyright laws in a library or something, and see if you can find anything about it. Or find a copyright lawyer who'll let you know for free. Something like that. It always pays to know exactly, especially if you have to do a watermark, or something like that, like it sounds like the Doctor thinks you will.

ah ok
Doctor: That fade in/fade out you mentioned is likely a watermark on the CD. What I said is that your post made it seem as thought it were likely that Gigantic Penis here might need to do something similar if he were to record a demo, and that he should be sure to actually find out, so that he doesnt get sued because he didnt turn the volume on the recording down for ten seconds.
guitar_demon: See above.

A lot of bands have covered Fear of the Dark already.. I'd choose another song

I had some other choices.....
Friends Forever by Zack Attack - I don't know who wrote it......
Love You To Death by Type O - Don't know if I'm good enough for this one.......
Something by Nightwish or Smashing Pumpkins............
Or a great cover I had in mind was Romeo's Distress by Christian Death, however there was one problem. In that song, even though I am quite sure it is not meant to be racist, the word "nigger" is used. Now, I don't know if using such a word would be good for a first demo.
What if you're sending it to White Supremacy Records? Then it'd be fine.

What the hell is wrong with the word 'nigger'?? Its used so commonly around here and no one has a problem with it. If I call this dude Darnell 'nigger' he's like "What's up nigga? Need some trees?" (and yes he's black) ...then I say it online and people are like "OH MY GOD!!!!! YOU RACIST HITLER LOVER!"
Nothing's wrong with it in itself, but something's wrong with the way it's percieved. And just because some people know you can say nigger without being offensive doesnt mean that it's not going to be offensive to some people, perhaps to some of the very same people Penis wants to impress. And, whether or not it's wrong in itself, if it's wrong to those people, it might as well be wrong objectively for all the good it's going to do him.
So that's what the hell is wrong with the word nigger: people.

It's like in Rush Hour, when Chris Tucker goes up to a black dude in a bar, and asks him, "what's up, my nigga?" All is cool. Jackie Chan does the same thing a few minutes later and nearly gets his ass kicked. It's all about perception.

"Burning crosses
on a nigger's lawn
burning dollars
what's a house without a home?
dance in your white sheet glory
dance in your passion
talk about sugar on the six fingered beast
conversation about the holes in your hands
walk through the garden
of men's desires
conversation about
the kingdom of fire
What's that moving in the basement?
What's that moving in the attic
Who's that walking in the shadow
Who's that walking in the streets
(chorus)
Kiss on my hand
After dark
Kiss on my hand
After dark
Kiss on my hand
Romance in sequence
Harmful to the blind
Burning hearts
through the top of your skull
Dance in your white sheet glory
Dance in your passion
your days are numbered
with l,love in your eyes
Love?
Pull down the Sheets
Take off your clothes
Get out of bed
I'm so tired"
It's not racist, it's just has a seemingly racist word. Great song though......

that isnt racist
its showing the effects of racism and what people who are racist do
hell to it you could put it over as an anti racism appeal
