Anyone watch this? I didn't see a thread about it.. They played a new song! "Frantic." it sounded really good.. very different style though... parts sounded like messhugah

Of course I saw it. That Frantic clip you see floating around online I made, and AllMetallica.com ripped it off of me, fuckers.

Avril shouldn't have been allowed to sing fuel, she had no energy, the drummer was weak and they all seemed like they din't want to be there. Sum 41 I though was pretty good, the best of the night 'sides Metallica. Korn was OK except for their fucking bassist, clang-clang-clang was all you heard in the intro. Staind did OK too, at least Aaron can sing. Snoop was just horrible along with :flame: Limp Dick, the DJ should be hung and stripped of his skin, scratch instead of solo? Jim Breur was pretty funny with the impressions "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands! YEEEEAAAAHHH!" "OOOOOHHHH" Metallica played a cool medley and played some of Frantic but MTV cut it off, fucks. Rob's base should have been louder but it was acceptable. The intro machine-gun type riff sounded awesome, cool tempo change-ups too, Lars still has what it takes. James voice was questionable though, he usually sings differently in the studio so hopefully that won't be an issue because other wise this album is gonna be flawless!

That hole thing was just a huge publicity stunt to promote there new record. That show really made me think low of them. I woudn't care if they admited that Metallica has taken a whole new direction, but the fact that they act like they are still the same bothers me. Bla.

Yeah, publicity sucks. I mean, why the fuck would any band want to have the opportunity to reach millions of people and play new music for them? It's absurd. I know for a fact that no black or death metal band would EVER do that. I mean, it's all about doing what the idiot fans want them to do, right? Stay unheard by the majority of people that could potentially like them and buy their album, that sounds like a plan. I'm pretty sure that every "hardcore"(no not the genre you labeling cunts)sits around in band meetings saying:

"Hey, we have an opportunity to be on national television, but I think we're gonna have to turn it down."

"Why?"

"Well ya know, the fans would call us sellouts and then there's all that extra money we'd probably make. Fuck, I really like working at Burger King in between playing in shithouses that we call venues."

"You're right. Metal!!!!"

See, there's no way. Everyone in the end is about getting that dollar. You think these bands want to work 3 jobs and gig in shitty metal bars the rest of their lives? No.

Now, Metallica of course don't need the promotion. All they really need is a reminder to some of the dumber people out there that somehow forgot Metallica was still around. Icon was that reminder. Not everyone out there checks the internet for metal news.

As for Icon, I could really give a shit about the show except for the performance by Metallica.

Exactly. And I was mad that they only played one new song.

Metallica have made it abundantly clear that they are not "acting like they are the same". It's the press, and the "fans" that have generated that bullshit. Metallica have repeatedly said that they're heading in a different direction which happens to be more aggressive. I think if you hear the new album you'll understand what they're talking about, this isn't going to sound like any Metallica record in the past.

yeah sure, thats a load of horseshit, to me this kinda bullshit on mtv is selling out, for fucks sake, playing with crap bands like that?

Ok, sure they don't wanna play in crappy sweaty places, they want to earn shitloads of MONEY, whatever, I'm happy with the crappy sweaty, dark, places my band plays in now, not like we're ever going to get the opportunity to sell out, but I wouldn't want to be on tv anyway....

Avril shouldn't have been allowed to sing fuel, she had no energy

Yeah, my bad, I shouldn't have banged her that long.

DefEdit: just heard some of the songs and saw some vids on internet, avril's cover of fuel did s*ck, korn's version of One was kinda korny, lol, maybe a bit too much, limp bizkit's sanitarium... well, I dunno, I don't like those bands too much so most of their covers sounded kinda lame to me. the frantic song is well, ok I guess, I want more.

i figured it wold just piss off real metalheads. cuz the cover bands were bands most metal fans hate: korn, avril, limp bizkit, snoop. on that, ive gotta say that LB did quite well. cuz sanitarium cant be rapped so he just had to try(and try was all he could do) to sing it. if they got rid of that fucking DJ they might be half-way decent. i hate avril lavinge with a passion! i wanna kick her fucking head in. im hugely disappointed that metallica let them in there. korn i kinda like even thought they "numetal". snoop dogg? somebody kill me! and about that song they debuted "frantic" or wutever, i though it kinda sucked. not a very good metallica like song. i think they just keep evolving (into shit). i didnt really like it, but at least they got a metal band as the icon of the year instead of some pop-pussy! oh well, the world will go on. wat a statement of hope, huh?

I never saw that show....what bands pulled off solos?

slayme_returns
2003-05-08, 11:29
Sum 41 is the only band that pulled off any solo. In their medley they did, they kicked into Puppets right at the first solo, pretty ballsy if you ask me. The solo wasn't 100% flawless, but god damn if they didn't pretty much pull it off. That being said, I still could've lived without every lame ass cover, I only wanted to see Met play their set.

Avril's guitarist played a solo and korn attempted to

Def

that Korn cover of One was a joke. I kinda liked the new tallica song.. dunno.

I still want the album... but this kinda shit ''mtv icon'' (what the fuck is up with that) kinda lowers the standards of tallica for me..

slayme_returns
2003-05-08, 13:26
Avril's guitarist didn't play shit, and that part that Korn played wasn't the real solo of that song.

MTV invited Metallica to this thing, Metallica didn't organize it. MTV gave Metallica list of current flavors of the year/month to perform and from that list Metallica had to pick. Lars has been quoted as saying there were alot worse on that list that they passed over.

I didnt know about this, but I watched the performances on Mtv's site, and most of them seem to have been jokes (i.e. Snoop Dogg and Korn). Metallica was ok, so was Staind, even though they left out all the good parts (IMO) of Nothing else matters.

well i didnt bother to watch the Icon performance, but since you all talked about the shitty performances i downloaded the avirl lavigne fuel cover and i thought it was hilarious. and metallicas new song.....i thought it was ok in the beginning but after the intro it went to shit

Atleast the new song is better than their last couple albums (althought unforgiven 2 is one of my favorite metallica songs). I'd rather have something like this than another load.

The reason why it kinda sounded like Meshuggah is because Lars and Kirk
met the guys from Meshuggah and were given a lesson or two about how metal
SHOULD be. :p

When Sum 41 played the MOP solo, there was this one part of it where it sounded like the weird sound effect of the intro riff of Suicide Note Part 2 from Pantera.

Yeah I was kinda surprised that Metallica could even go to a show with such shit bands. They looked like they were laughing when that dumbass Snoopy guy fucked up their whole song. That could be described in one word: shit.
