im confused with the whole "numetal" label

at first, it was considered shit-faggot bands like limp bizkit. then, theres some that say bands like slipknot are numetal. then, some beleive SOAD is numetal. im confused. wut exactly IS numetal? i know its a brand of poser-metal, but what is it like? people have fucked with my head on this one. i just wanna know what numetal is.

Nu Metal is basic metal... it´s simple (and in my opinion stupid). Nu Metal is just slamming on a guitar while acting stupid for example: American Head Charge.

numetal usually has downtuned guitars and lyrics about teen angst and depression so it appeals to "depressed" and "loser" teens. they also usually have some rapping going on. o yea, and most numetal bands cuss. alot.

My definition of nu-metal:

Bands that incorporate many stops/pauses/rests in the middle of riffs to create a choppy effect, bands that include rap-like vocals, bands that show a mainstream image (not all numetal bands are mainstream), bands that incorporate whining vocals into heavy riffs (I know hardcore never does this- they use whining vocals/soft vocals during slow riffs and emo is NEVER heavy... or at least in my opinion), and/or bands that are very generalized with their riffs and most of their songs sound exactly the same because the chord progressions are similiar( I've listened to a Static-X album, and the whole thing sounded exactly the same to me)

I guess that nu-metal should have a couple of these characteristics and not just 1.. I know Opeth has a song called Deliverance- they use choppy riffs and to me, it sounds nu-metalish. Rap-like vocals.. Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park.. Mainstream Image.. Korn, POD, Slipknot, Mushroomhead. Whining vocals.. Linkin Park, Creed( I think), Flaw, Taproot. Generalized riffs- Godsmack ( a little bit.. there are some differences, but mostly all the same), Static-X

Some people may disagree, but this is all from my perspective.

Edit- I am a "depressed loser" teen, but I am totally not into nu-metal, as I find the lack of solos/leads/breakdowns pretty lame and it takes my interest away. Lyrically wise, I guess they could attract the "depressed loser" teens.. But then again, many bands like My Dying Bride and Opeth have depressed lyrics, are you saying they are nu-metal as well?

You've been poisoned by context. Deliverance doesn't sound nu-metallish at all, it's one riff in a 13 min+ song. The RELIANCE on these riffs to carry a song is something else entirely.
