i know this is kinda old news, but im blown away by wut meshuggah has done. they now play custom made 8-stingers! thats right the lowest added string is F or sumthin
(cuz they tune down half-step). is this crazy or wut? he said that he cant even play powerchords on it cuz it too blurry. and then, theres sandblasted skin by pantera(where he tunes the 6th one whole octave below the 5th to G). wut is the lowest tuning youve ever heard from a band?

the custom 8 string guitars dont have and extra low tuned string like the 7 string (well...i could be wrong). what it has is on the 5th and 6th strings, its doubled like a 12 string guitar. snake from skinlab has a couple custom ones too. you can check it out on http://www.espguitars.com/html/cs_gallery.html its pretty friggin cool, i wouldnt mind having one!

These 8 string guitars are like a 7 string only like how a 7 string is like a 6 with a heavy B string added, they get a 7 string and add another heavy string.

Just because that Pantera tab says that he tunes taht low does not not mean he really does. I've seen that song performed live, and he did not switch guitars.

On another note, my friend downtuned his guitar like 2 octaves so it was like a 6 string bass. Sounded like he was playing under mud though.

no, meshuggah's 8 string is different then snakes, and adam from tool goes standard and downtunes the top string to B. Not bad. That pantera song isn't downtuned to G, its just regular GSTK tuning. 1 and a half steps down. And i think the 8th string on the meshuggah guitar is a C, like on a 6 string bass.
