View Full Version : Children Of Bodom?
What does every1 think of em?
I think they are fucking great. I just lidtened to their songs for a while and, shit, they kickass! Great hevy riffs, good heavy vocals. Drumming isn't great, but it's ok. Overall - 5 warhammers

I only gave them 3 cause the vocals suck.
I think their vocals are pretty good. They are heavy and sometimes growling, but don't sound bad, unlike In Flames who have great music but shitty vocals
music is technical but vocals abit like dani fitlh.....

One of my very favourite bands. No idea what people don't get from the vocals, I hear them just fine.
Yeah CoB are pretty fucking sweet! and dani filth is a great vocalist too.

Dani has one hell of a high-pitched voice...but it fits in perfectly for CoF songs, they are really cool. CoB vocals are just fine, he has a heavy slur along with his heavy finnish accent which makes his vocals delightfully near-impossible to understand, I really like CoB.

Vocals are fine in my humble opinion. I don't think they are deliberately trying to emulate anyone in particular, so who cares?!
Follow the Reaper is the best album I've listened to in a long time... metal or otherwise! The vocals suit it fine... maybe in future releases a little more vocal harmony will show through. If not... well... as long as the next album is as good as FtR then so what. LONG LIVE CoB!!!!!!!!

They're my favorite band of all time, absolutely no question... I even chose my username as a tribute to Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho, lead guitarist and vocalist of the band.
When I first started listening to black metal, I couldn't stand the vocals, but now I almost crave them. And it's funny, I'm not a drummer, but the drums sound amazing to me!
My favorite CoB song has to be "Silent Night, Bodom Night," although it is hard to choose - every song is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Children of Bodom are pretty cool, even though I like their debut album best. But Alexi Laiho is a great vocalist and a great guitarwizz. Sure wish I could play like him.

I can't say enough about Alexi Laiho... he's such a versatile player. I really like the vocals, personally. But I can assure you that with time, the playing and the vocals are only going to get BETTER. After all, he's only 22 years old!
 he's pretty good for a 22-yr old!!! i mean kerry king is what? like 45 and the alexi guy is nearly as good as him
Actually I read an interview and he was talking about breaking up the band soon and when I saw that I was just like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I don't remember where I saw that though.
About the vocals, they aren't bad, they fit into the music just great, but I think it would be fun if he played around with different vocalists and concentrated on his guitar playing.

Whaaa??? Really???? I don't listen to much Slayer at all, but I've never been impressed with Kerry King, not in the least... his solos just don't seem to go anywhere, and just seem like a rip-fest, with no emotion or relevance to the song at all.
But, of course, keep in mind that I've only heard about 6 Slayer songs. Maybe he is great... but I dunno....... I don't think that anyone alive today can touch Laiho. I've listened to almost every popular metal band on the face of the Earth, and Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho has them all beaten.
And of course, beauty (and I suppose talent), is in the eye of the beholder... a guitar player may seem God-like to one person, while only average to another. I know that Slayer has a HUGE following, so this is probably the case with Kerry King...
I'll be sure to listen to more of his playing in the near future. He's probably better than I've ever given him credit for! :)

This is news to me!!!!!! I would be DEVASTATED if this occured. Kiniric, do you remember where the article was from????
Well I think I said in that thing I posted that I didn't, but if I didn't say that, I forget where I saw that. That was a couple months ago or something when I was trying to learn how to play the guitar and tried following CoB stuff but couldn't. So I gave up trying to play the guitar.
I think it would be extremely horrible if CoB broke up.

Why would Alexi want to break CoB up? I mean: how can he have any legitimate reason?
Well he said he wanted to disperce the band while it was at its height of fame, not just keep it going (like say metallica) untill its not famous anymore. He just wants it to be remembered at its highest point so he said he'll end it there.
(I should probably re-find that interview...)

Nearly? Better to my ears. I've never thought King or Hanneman to be particularly good (as much as I like some of slayers songs).
@Kiniric... yes... please do. I'm only hoping it isn't true.
yeah, king is pretty good. Not like vai, but still

you can't compare guitarists who play such different styles though...you can't say Trey from Morbid Angel is better then Eric Clapton just because he plays faster, different music styles have thier own greats, which cannot be compared to other greats in other styles cause it just doesn't fit

I doubt that King is 45.....and King was just as good when he was about 19 years old. Well, i'm sure he got better since then....but have you heard anything off of "Show no Mercy"?? Both him and Hanneman were brilliant at a young age.
no, show no mercy was kinda good, but on south of heaven, or, say seasons, king and hanneman were way better.

everyone gets better as time goes on...skillwise anyways...it doesn't mean the music gets better (metallica for example)

OK, I've listened to Kerry King, and he's exactly as I pictured him to be. I know there's some die-hard Slayer fans here (I'll never be one)... don't take this personally - but Kerry King wouldn't even make my Top 100 list of guitarists.
He seems to have some speed, but that's it. He has no apparent taste... he just rips, and that's it. Guitarists like Aleixi Laiho, Kirk Hammet, Marty Friedman and Randy Rhoads (just to name a few)have more intricately planned solos. Their leads and solos are relevant to the song. For example, Laiho RIPS in Silent Night, Bodom Night, because it's a fast-tempoed song. However, in Bed of Razors, a medium-tempoed song, his playing suits the overall structure of the song perfectly. The solo adds to the song, instead of taking away from it. King, on the other hand, just shows off, from what I can tell.
well, maybe... I mean I never listen to the actual skill of the guitarists, but I base my opinion on the music they produce. So maybe Kerry King is pretty shitty(rhyme heh heh), but I like Slayer, so...*shrug*

well he probably hits top 100 somewhere, even if it is 99 or so, but the Season's solo doesn't take away from the song at all, and he isn't really riping through that either...usually slayer songs are fast enough to just rip through though... but Hannemen is definately the better of the two.
: [/B][/QUOTE]they rulez man...kick the ass of mine.....i think they going to godhood
Well, i'm not going to get into a huge discussion because i don't feel like it.......all i'll say is King is a very good guitar player, and his solos do fit the music.....ever notice that about 90% or slayer songs are fast? And that fast solos go well with fast riffs?? Well....i assume you missed that whole fact about slayer, but whatever eh?
I just him live yesterday, he's pretty good. I mean he is. Maybe not veeery creative, but skillful (ripping it requires skill too). Araya didn't play like a quarter of his bass lines though lol sucka

Kerry King is ok I guess, but I'm not the world's biggest Slayer-fan anyway. Funny, but Slayer never appealed to me. They still don't. But I feel that you can't compare the thrash from the eighties with the one we have now. The Haunted and Hypnosia are thrash, but they sound nothing like Slayer.
