avatar problem

I've made myself a new avatar, and i wanted to upload it. It was a normal 50x50 JPG file. When i uploaded it it said: It must be a valid JPG file, but it was!
How to handle?!?!

try going into photoshop or dome other program, then "save as" a new jpg file

make sure you can see the file extentions
if not then renaming it will not work
you need to make sure you can see them
then change the root of the file to .jpg then try
