View Full Version : What pedals do I need to get Dimmu Borgir's sound?
right now I only have a DOD Grunge Pedal, Boss Heavy MEtal Pedal,
Envelope Filter, Cry BABY wah and that about it.....
Any distortion pedals to get that more crunchier sound from Dimmu Borgir?
LOL....This might also be another stupid question,
But is Dimmu Borgir Death Metal or Dark Metal?
GUITAR: (Silenoz) Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar (Galder) Jackson Randy Rhoads and Dave Mustaine guitars
AMPS: (Silenoz and Galder) Marshall 9200
EFFECTS: (Silenoz) Boss GX 700 preamp; (Galder) Digitech preamp.
Cut'n'pasted from guitarworld.com
You got that from The GuitarWorld issue....
LOL!
Anyway, what kind of Digitech preamp?:vampire:
Probably a 2101 or 2110, they are supposed to be the best.

How do preamps work exactly?
They provide effects for ur Amp.
But Preamps are kinda like Rack Units....LOL
People consider Rack Units to be stupid, but they are far supperior than
Multieffect pedals.........

Dimmu Borgir are black metal, and there can be no argument to this...why, you ask? Because Shagrath says himself that they are "Norwegian black-fucking metal"
As far as their sound goes, basically I've just used the regular distortion channel that is built into my Fender amp, and killed my bass and upped the treble and mids on my EQ and it sounds rather close.
Try just adjusting your equalization settings and see if that helps, but I guarantee a grunge pedal won't work well, try to work with the Boss.

if you dont want to spend all that money buying all their gear (although if i had a good job i wouldnt mind having their shit) just get a DoD death metal pedal. It is the most crunchy pedal ever. very heavy and very great. shit loads of fead back but its soo much distortian what do you expect. its my fav pedel....
I had the DOD Death Metal pedal,
but I didn't like it, it made my guitar sound like a fart......LOL!
:p but the DOD grunge has better sound, though the death metal
is heavier; the sounds annoy you like hell, but I plan on buying a
Metal Zone, maybe that will help to get Dimmu Borgir's sound since I'm
poor as hell to afford the pre amps and stuff, maybe Silenoz will donate his gear to
me, LOL!

Huh, I like their Dist. in their AVT models.....
But my bro has a Marshall Jackhammer and its ok....
I rather get Metal Zone cuz its cheaper....
Marshall pedals are like 150 bucks in Tujunga....

I just use the overdrive on my 1x12 and it sounds really good I think for most styles of music. I don't have a dist. pedal.... maybe if I started a band I'd look for one though.

if you don't have an kickass amp w. distortion, od will just make your sound bluesy and pansy....wich in turn gives me the blues :bawling:
Dimmu is like 'nu' black metal.
Preamps are just that, they provide everything except ampilfication. It basicly moddsifys and eqs your sound. You then can run that into a power amp (best way), a PA, or another amp. Heads and combos have both a pre-amp (the eq, reverb, ect) and a power amp section (volume). Thoes Line 6 PODs are preamps.

I agree, after listening to albums like Death Cult and Puritanical I found out they do seem to get into the "Nu" phase.
