anyone ever wonder why some teachers require papers to be ridiculously long? today in my comp 2 class the teacher mentioned how the final research paper was going have to be 10-12 pages. I got scared on the inside....and pissed. what can be said in 10 pages can be said better, in my opinion, in like 5 or 6. going 10 pages is just going to mean stretching it out to the point where it's going to sound really redundant.

It depends on the class and the topic. In comp 2 college class, yes a 10 page paper of just about anything is going to be pretty dumb, especially considering who takes that class. (everyone)

In a real philosophy, english, or other writing intensive class 10 page papers are extremely common. My friend probably writes a 7-10 page paper a week for class. (even in the summer still) Hes usually taking philosophy, english, and history at the sametime so he usually has one paper due for one of the classes and they're usually pretty long so he'll stay up all night the night before writing the paper. He gets B/Cs for writing the night before and not proof reading, so at least hes pretty good at writing.

Yeah i think the tabs thing has really made this site almost worthless to go to outside of the forum, and even that is pretty pointless for new members. Lets face it. I'm sure there are much "better" website forums to join that are based on metal and at least encompass more than "tabs." Sure there are new people coming for help with playing or gear, but i'm sure gear websites and actual metal forums are more likely to attract those people. And as far as tabs go I stopped coming here for tabs probably about 6 months to a year after i first joined the forum because there wasn't a whole lot from the bands i liked anyways by comparison to ultimate-guitar.com. (which is the only tab site i use)

The reason I'm here is basically because the forum is about both, about metal and about guitar and I feel there many really good players here who could help me with problems and that stuff

Still, the tabs thing sucks a lot...maybe it would be good to get an update about how things will going to continue... but I guess, many bands won't reply and tell wheter it is ok for them to see their tabs in the internet... I still wonder, why it isn't possible to put all the tabs online again and only take off those, where the bands rejected a permission? i guess thats still better than what many other tabsites do... or one could also send all the tabs to those people, who are active on this site for a long time - would be cool for them and they could maybe help out, if someone needs a tab?

however, i agree that it would be great to have something besides the forum and the tabs in order to attract people. i just thought about this for a few minutes and came up with two things:

for those rather new to guitar playing a lesson-like thing. but not the common "how to palm mute / play power chords..." stuff but "how to play that metal song" - articles, with detailed description (maybe also on the theory used), tabs, backing tracks, videos,... i know this would be quite some work, but even having like 3-5 songs like this would be really cool for people learning without a teacher. another nice thing might be a "one hour per day practise program". something like "20 minutes warm-ups, 10 minutes technique (hammer on/pull offs, bends, tapping,...), 20 minutes speed practises, 10 minutes scales" or so with example exercises for everything, general tipps (using a metronom,...) and so on. i guess many people starting out with guitar playing are wondering what they should actually practise in order to get better
and maybe some other useful articles for beginners and intimediates

and maybe one could do some contests for the experts we have here. could be anything like "best self-written solo of the week", best cove version of a song that was choosen by the community before, best tab of a song that was chosen before and so on

as said before, i haven't thought about this ideas for too long (and they probably don't belong to the chit chat forum), but maybe you find some of them still usefull

actually, someone did tell me it couldnt. and when i first picked up a guitar, i was awful. here i am 6 years later, and i am at a good spot. some people have the mind for it, and some dont.

guitar helped me to know what to do on violin. they are different, but i understand the notes.

He said that the amp was given to a friend of a friend, not necessarily a direct friend. So who knows how often Dissection and the other guy make contact with one another, or how well they even know each other to begin with. It would still be a good ideal for her to tell the guy that the deal is canceled by default and that she took the amp back and sold it ( you should give her at least $1 ). That way you legally own the amp ( you bought it and no one can take it from you ) and he can't say you stole the amp. No need to hide it from him or tell him how much you bought it for.

I do agree though that letting an amp rot in a damp basement is BS. Take good care of it.

Time to plug myself here. As for the 5150 transformer upgrade, you can click the link in my sig for more info. I don't have any before and after sound clips though. You can check Youtube and hear several other amps with the upgrades. I sell with a 20% discount so the output tranny is $200 ( $250 normally ), the power tranny is $208 ( $260 normally ), and choke is $24 ( $30 normally ). I'm a tech/dealer for Mercury Magnetics ( I use them in my personal amps ) so I could install them for you but I charge labor. It would cost about $150 to install the whole set because the stock 5150 doesn't have a choke circuit. The labor also includes inspection, cleaning, testing, burn in, and matched coupling capacitor upgrades. I can also do other modifications and upgrades ( tubes, bias, ect ) for a little more than parts cost once I have the amp open. The amp will be returned a fine tuned machine with all top quality parts and military grade solder joints. Remember, I was a nuclear electronics tech in the Navy ;) I love working on amps and guitars. If you ever believe one thing I say then believe that upgrading your amp with quality transformers is the best thing you can ever do.

Regardless of this one instance, he is consistently a fucking over the top jackass that hardly ever contributes anything positive to the forum. Sure he says stuff thats funny now and again, but its far far too often that he detracts any positives.

I'm not neccesarily saying its bad to stay updated with a forum that you may like, but he most definitely has gone above and beyond to try to make it seem as though he doesn't care about the forum, doesn't care what we think, nor care about the rules. I've called him out on it on several occasions. "His i don't care what you say," but keeps making the arguments showing that he actually does "care."

Tolex from here (http://www.tubesandmore.com/) is well priced. I think you might need about 2 sq yards a 4x12 cab at least.

Re: Infinity - I personally liked him more than I like most of you guys, at least some of the time, but he got more chances than almost anybody else who's been banned (way more - he's actually the only person I've ever unsuspended on this site). Usually the policy is that if you get suspended for some bullshit, and keep on pulling it over and over again afterwards, you get banned because you've proven yourself incapable of playing with others in our playground. andrewc, for example, got banned because he kept on pulling the bullshit that got him suspended.

Infinity just kept on getting suspended as though it was the first or second time. For years and years. Always the same shit. While it's not perfectly consistent, it's understandable given the rules we've had and explained to you all, that he should have been banned eventually. Even if he didn't create a second name - and I wasn't here and have no idea whether or not he did - he was going to be suspended eventually. He just rubbed too many people the wrong way and didn't take care to do so while staying within the rules, which would be so much more annoying and effective.

So there you go. I don't know whether the forum's better or worse, but it didn't take a conspiracy. Or, if it did, it was one he cooperated with as fully as he could.

And an IP search goes through the entire database. Do you have any idea how long it would take to check IP addresses against each members' individually?

Thats one of the dumbest things I've ever heard... Not everyone who is poor is poor because they couldn't stop having kids. Yes, some people get themselves into the situation they are in. But some people honestly can't get out of debt or whatever their situation (can't find work that pays enough, medical problems, etc). Those people I truly feel sorry for. But the pieces of shit who keep having kids, keep repeating the same mistakes, and try to live off of welfare and section 8 housing just need to fucking die. Those people are a drain on the country as a whole. I'm going to assume you agree with this and just made a general statement so that this doesn't start some sort of argument...

At the same time, many people who are rich are profiting off of the misery of others. Think about wealthy business owners. They make millions a year, and their employees struggle to get by. Thats not to say that we should all live in a communistic society where everyone should make the same amount of money regardless of their line of work (communism makes sense on paper, can and never will work out because of the natural human greed and need to feel better/more successful than everyone else).

I don't know, I don't really feel like getting into this whole debate though. I'm hoping that things start to get better in the next few years, but I don't think people in this country are accepting enough of change for it to actually happen.

Final fantasy at times is a pretty easy target to "Bash" their games, but as somebody who thrives on rpgs almost every Final Fantasy game starting with the snes ones has been extremely amazing games. On terms of gameplay and originality.

I don't care about graphics most often, and as much as games nowadays attempt to show how "good" they are because they look good and they have multiplayer, at least Final Fantasy games consistently show how amazing their games can be. Even the newest one. (FF12). They continually get better and better.

I must admit though as much as i love FF7 and i was influenced as much as anybody else by that game, in comparison to some of the newer ones FF7 doesn't compare to FF10 or 12.

FF7s story is filled with much holes, and multiple stories that don't sync up. I've posted before about my opinions on FF7. I think it just came out at the right time in peoples growing up phases that most people hold it as one of the best games of all time.

I think for me I feel those kind of feelings for Chrono Trigger. But in reality the game is extremely small and one of the most linear rpgs of all time. Should we judge it differently because of when it was made and its innovations of the day? Sure maybe, it still has one of hte best graphics for snes and is one of the only games on snes especially rpg wise that doesn't have extremely obvious 16 bit graphics. (the chipsets and character sprites alike)

But i must admit the characters were likeable. (outside of cait sith naturally) Hes probably on the list of worst characters of all time. just because they're annoying and not worth ever using.

Oh you're now crazy. Chrono trigger has a great rpg story. The characters are great and loveable.

When i first played chrono trigger i was 3rd or 4th grade as well. I've played through Final Fantasy 7 at least 5 times. And at least 1 time doing every single thing in the game. (60+ hours of time getting every single materia mastered and beating all weapons, getting all the final weapons and so on)

I really like the newest FF because of the gameplay. It was the first time that i fel in love with the fighting. Its the only rpg i've ever played where i was like oooooh battles! FUN! I was always at much higher levels than the bosses due to my enjoyment of the battles.

But if you have played Fallout 1 or 2 i highly recommend them. They are without a my favorite rpgs. You can be any kind of character you want, and do anything you want. If you want to be a good character that does things that are "right," cool, if not and want to do just sick and twisted things, cool.

Fallout is a game where the world has gone through nuclear winter and mankind has continued to move on in a anarchic world. Its got a comedic value that isn't seen in many games.

You can get it cheap and you'll get an understanding of why its such an amazing series of games.
