personally i like semour duncans better than i do emg's but dont get me wrong emg's still rule:D and nice.. jacksons are what i play:cool:

ive got an 81 and 85 in my ESP Vs and they really do create some aggressive tones.

emg 81's sound sooooo thin to me. If you play an EMG 81 back to back with just about any decent high output pickup you should realize it too. They have great sustain and they're very clear, but they just sound soooo thin. I just took an emg 81 out of my parker and replaced it with a gibson p-90, it sounds awesome. Another thing with emgs is the clean is well, pretty brutal, i think theyre very overrated.

my emgs sound really fat if i want them to, and can sound thin whenever also.

ive played emgs in multiple guitars and i didnt really like the sound in any of them.

i know what your talking about....I've been learning a lot of shred songs recently (Becker, Malmsteen, etc) and i find that the EMG 81 doesnt have a real mean fat sound.....but it still kicks ass for Stratovarius/Iced Earth/Bodom/ many other bands. I might get some DiMarzio pickups next, i love their tone.
