I like mine with beef, cheese, and tortilla.... Come to think of it, pretty much everything on the Taco Bell menu is just a different variation of beef, cheese, and tortilla.

i prefer the soft taco's only beef and cheese, with an ass ton of mild sauce for flavor.
but if im gonna go fast food mexican, im gonna get taco del mar, a big burrito with rice, black beans, shredded beef, cheese, and their mild sauce. fucking delicious

Taco Bell shit isn't bad, but the more authentic it is, the better. I like burritos with rice, beans, mixed cheese (preferably mozarella/cheddar), and beef or chicken. Then again, I guess there aren't many other ways to make a burrito.

I make my own shit at home, but I use totally non-traditional things like green olives, mushrooms, spinach, collard greens, sauerkraut... Most people probably wouldn't like it. At home I prefer monterrey jack or pepper jack.

I'll pretty much throw any meat, cheese, and vegetable into a tortilla, bake it, and call it lunch.

ex.
Meatloaf + Government cheese + carrots = great
Spam + cottage cheese + water chestnuts = AWESOME

today i went to a mexican place around the corner from where i live.

i got chorizo and beef tounge tacos.........and a steak burrito.

they messed up the order and i ended up getting a beef tounge burrito.....but it was good. chewy but good.

this place didnt have the brains as a meat option, i never had that.

you get cilantro, lettuce, onion, tomatos and some grated cheeze on the taco, the lack of sour cream made them kinda dry tasting......

it was ok, decent mexican food is hard to find where im at.

tacos fucking rule! i actually have the beginnings of taco night building up in my cabinet. now i just need ground beef and some vegetables to use as toppings.

ingredients i use (besides various spices):

ground beef, taco seasoning as a base for other spices, diced tomato, lettuce, onion, garlic, jalapenos, habaneros, pepper jack cheese (jalapeno), and hot sauce. this is making me pretty damn hungry...

Taco Bell = crap. It's literally the fast food restaurant with the lowest quality meat in America. Meaning it's at the bottom of the bottom of the barrel.

But go a little West from me in Chicago and you'll find some damn good Mexican food. The entire West Side of Chicago is practically all Mexican, and for some reason 90% of them are involved in making food of some sort. I mostly have burritos, tortas, tostadas, and gorditas, though. Not too big on the tacos themselves for whatever reason. Like some kind of dead cow or pig in them. And beer with salsa in it.

the trick is homemade tacos. to me..tacos are one of those food items that are incredible because you can add pretty much anything to them. like chili, theres a ridiculous amount of things you can put on a taco.

if anyone is really interested:

marcos almost famous hot sauce if incredible on tacos! it wasn't made for tacos but i have gone through a few bottles and have one or two on hand ready to go...and the complexity of the sauce compliments the complexity of tacos like nothing i've ever seen before. i love the sauce on other food..but tacos seem to have been made for this stuff.

about homemade tacos, a suggestion is to try something beyond ground beef, anything beyond that shit.

chorizo is like a sort of sausage, steak or chicken......far superior.

Living in New York, you've never experienced the wonders of tex mex.

Tacos are fucking awesome. I like beef, guacamole, pico, sour cream, cheese....

Chicken and avacado

Breakfast taco - potato, bacon, egg n cheese or Chorizo n egg

Unfortunately, there is no real good Italian Restraunts down here. But Tex-Mex > all other genres of food.

nah not entirely true. i visited my brother right in austin. we went to "chuys' (sp) where the bush girls got in trouble for boozing. i had an amazing guacomole dip thing that was better than the actual food i ordered

but my favorite texas food was most certainly BRISKET. you cant get that anywhere here

also, i vote nay on sour cream

You can get brisket in any Jewish deli worth the name. They have them all over New York State. And you can make it yourself if you have a grill with an offset heat source, which you should.

Chuys was fun but I've been to better Tex-Mex places, especially in San Antonio (it had to have at least one thing over Austin). They just had fewer types of Margaritas. And, I guess, less prestigious drunks.

I like sour cream and I'm no less from Upstate NY. I think it's a The Queens of Saratoga Springs thing.

Why the hell would you want to know the specifics of any aspect of my apartment situation?

Tex-mex describes generally any "Mexican" food that's not genuinely authentic Mexican food. When you order the fajitas at Chili's, that's an example of Tex-mex.

Chuy's is a tourist attraction.....I think you may need to be a resident in order to know where to get the best tex-mex in austin.

If you, or anyone for that matter, ever come back, here are some mexican restraunts not to be missed.

3rd Best - Ken's Tacos - North East Austin. They have funky hours (10 am - 2pm), but I'll be damned if they dont have the best tacos on the planet. 2 bucks for a breakfast taco the size of a burrito...no shit.

2nd Best - Las Manitas on Congress. AMAZING FOOD!! The city of austin actually gave the restraunt 750,000 bucks to relocate due to a hotel moving into their current location. Some really delicious stuff there.

1st - El Sol y La Luna - Just south of hte River on Congress. IF YOU EVER HAPPEN TO BE IN AUSTIN ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON - this is the place to go. Order their special on fridays which is the shrimp enchiladas. Your mouth will orgasm.

Brisket is damn good. BBQ in Texas is damn good. We know how to eat down hur.

lawl....naw. Tex-Mex is an american twist on mexican food. Real Mexican food isn't chips n salsa. It actually involves a lot of seafood.

the cilantro, cheese and cream must be made with careful balance, each one could dominate the entire taco and thus ruin it.

I put on mostly everything except tomatoes.. I've been meaning to force myself to like tomatoes though, it feels so fucking faggoty when you're ordering things to say "Oh yeah and don't put tomatoes on". Only whiny bitches do that. I've forced myself to like pickled cucumbers before, and now i eat them on everything, so i know it can be done.

Anyway, what's that thing called that's like a soft taco but you put this sourcream based sauce on it, wrap it up, put cheese on top and put it in the oven till the tortilla's cooked and the cheese is melted? Damn those are good but i can't find them anywhere here. I had it once like 6 years ago and i still remember them so they had to kick ass.

i made tacos last night..mainly because this of this thread but also because i had some shells and taco seasoning in the cabinet. a little over a pound of ground sirloin, 2 habaneros, 1 large jalapeno, some diced onion, jalapeno pepper jack cheese (melted it at the bottom of the tacos to try and keep the shells from cracking..worked pretty well.) diced tomato, shredded lettuce, and marcos hot sauce. they were pretty damn good. the only problem was that i should've bought the XL taco shells.

Yeah but don't you feel like a whiny brat when there's 15 people in line behind you and you're like "yeaaah.. 12 taco's but no sour cream and put some more corn on" and they have to make a special order that takes like half an hour? Usually places like this have the food sitting in heat cabinets ready-made, so it's fast. Now, if you were in a real restaurant i get you, but i thought we were talking about taco bell / similar, lol

i know what you mean. my friend is the "whiny brat" in these cases. at taco bell, he gets some sort of burrito, but adds rice and potatoes. seriously, almost every time, the employee will get all confused and dumbfounded. its retarded. and, though it is the employee, at fault, we just make fun of my friend for being picky :p

the only mexican food around here is taco bell, the old el paso (sp?) kits and a high end-ish restaurant called "mexicali roses".

Taco bells cheap menu is a personal fav when i have 2 bucks to my name and need a quick hunger fix (that or wendy's).

The kit things are decent for what they are.

and mexicali roses is over priced and not all THAT good. sucks, because i do love taco's and all that stuff.

i like taco bell. some people bitch that its not REAL mexican food. if thats the case, then i like real, and fake mexican food. besides, the local restaurants (non fast food) dont usually stay open late enough for my drinking friends, and i. taco bell does, and is a lot cheaper/faster. i get either the crunch wrap supreme or chicken quesadilla.

about the sour creme, lolz, i like it on a number of things, but no where near a chicken quesadilla. it is due to taco bell, but i think sour creme goes good, so long as there is lettuce and tomato, preferably with beef. ...such as the crunch wrap supreme.

they cater to you, they make your dinner or lunch easier, thier good service ensures you are satisfied and may become a repeat customer, they are doing you a favor and not the other way around.....people have allergies, you know, so employees better give you what you ask for. most fast food joints use a number system where more convenient orders can be done and sent out.
