i was reading an interview with Jon Schaffer in a magazine, and he has a brilliant idea.
When they go on tour, it cost them lots of money to open for a big band like when they opened for Megadeth. Jon figures, why not get more for the money? He says that for the next IE tour, he would like to try and open for Limp Bizcuit, Korn etc.
He wants to try and steal the audience.......
That is an amzing idea. Think about it, it cost lots of money anyway, so why not take the humiliation of opening for a much less talented band, and then blow the audience away? That could really expand the IE audience.
Opening acts are all about money, if I had about $100,000, I could probably outbid every other band and get a spot for my band in Ozzfest, cuz thats all it takes to play there. I read that a band has to pay about an average of $75,000 for an Ozzfest spot.
This is a really great idea for IE, I would love to see this trend in the future, it can really expand the metal audience. Think about it..........
Linkin Park and Soilwork
Korn and Dimmu Borgir

Hahahahahaha now you sure could come up with some mismatched bands...
Darkane and Limp Bizkit stands out in my mind somehow. Maybe 28 Days and Soiletn Green... you'd get all these people going to gigs, and then quitting after the opening act. Now THAT would be funny.

one little problem with that...if I was Iced Earth (which I'm not and I wouldn't want to be because I hate them) why the fuck would I WANT to take Limp Bizkit fans? Trendy Mallcore Assclowns aren't who I'd like to be trying to latch on to my music.

Damn, I guess I'll be going to a limp bizkit concert soon....:D
DarkestHour, you'd do it because you want money. Everybody does, that's why they call it "money."
This seems to me to be about live music. Live music has its own corner of the site. We call it "Tours and Concerts." Look for this thread there, coming soon.

Trendy Mallcore Assclowns can buy cds though. They can also be coverted. If I was in IE's position I would jump on the chance to tour with disturbed, POD, or Korn. I'd tour with them rather than some real metal bands.
it's not all about money, we as a band just get in shows with bigger bands everytime cuz where' beeeing asked by those bands or either the organisation.
for bigger bands, ofcourse money IS an issue, but some bands just know each other and get into each others programs, taproot got into deftones opening show because they know each other etc.
when it comes to really big shows like Ozzfest, local talented bands are put in a poll and the winners are the 3 that play on Ozzfest (thats how it works here)
the real big bands are mostly polled on internet or either voted for in a way, it's not only about money (except for kittie, they had to pay to get on ozzfest, haha)

that sucks and is a very stupid idea ... fuckin sellouts
it would be better to open for crappier bands that have a few similarities with you. Like Meshuggah before Slipknot or something.

That's fucking stupid.. The LB fans aren't even going to like them.. too much of a change.

I stand by what I said, and it's not "all about the money" to some people in this world. Granted many bands out there do this for a living and have a family to pay for, but I have a lot more respect for people who have day jobs and still play in bands that tour. D.I.Y. before management greed is how I see it. And yes, it is still a stupid idea and I still say Iced Earth is a boring band with stupid touring ideas.
I think you get the point, darkest hour
probally the worst idea i have ever heard. Dimmu and Korn? Come on... i dont think Dimmu has the intention of showing everyone there better. Ahhh they might as well go on trl, its like your trying to expose great.
Gigantic Penis

dimmu and korn was a match I made up, but IE is serious about opening for "the nu-metal fags" as he refered to them
i think nu metal fans can easily get into a band like IE. IE writes catchy music so it would be easier to get nu metal fans then if Cattle Decapitation or Gorguts tried this
dont populate this great music that is here. Its not ment for everyone.

since iced earth writes catchy music though, with proper exposure, there is no reason why a song like "watching over me" couldn't be as big as "trust" or "until it sleeps"

catchy if you like listening to retro 80's music that's been done to death for the past 20 years

I would never pay money to play anywhere, I only EARN money with music actually, free drinks and food included :D
it can happen that poppy bands have managers that will pay for the band to get a spot at a big festival to promote the band in every way they can.
but that's just commercialism at it best.

From what I know of the music business which isn't a whole lot. This is how I understand things.. Small bands that get signed to small labels make their money off cd's.. The label pays for the them to go into Venues and play.. like Ohio Death Fest.. Milwaukee Metal fest.. Stuff like that. The bands don't get a cut at the door at Venue's they get free food.. Free beer what ever.. And when small signed bands play at gigs it's basically the same way.. They get a small cut at the door and really don't make much money. It all depends on the label I guess. All label's are different. When you get to the bigger bands.. The label pays for studio time and you have to pay for distributor costs.. Manger costs.. label costs.. you have to repay the studio from album costs for what you used basically.. Labels are almost like a loan company.. they front the money for you to go into the studio and you have to pay them back for that.. That's why alot of bands don't record alot.. It's expensive.. which i'm sure you guys know that.
yeah you're right, recording time is fucking expensive.
when we do gigs, we get free drinks and sometimes some food or something, we can get a split of the profits of the night sometimes (with the other 2 bands ofcourse, which leaves us with just a small amount per person ofcourse.)
bigger bands are beeing paid by the manager of the place they play, it's easy to get a paid gig, but thats just for normal sized bands, if you do get big it gets harder I think....
we're just enjoying the free beer at the moment :) sometimes we get paid a bit, but where happy with the travel cost and the drinks.

That's what all my friends like about being on a small label. They get to play small gigs which they love.. they've played a few bigger venue's which they liked.. But they didn't get paid anything.. the small gigs they get a tiny bit per person.. and all the free beer and food they want.. plus it's more personal.. not so many people.. But also in turn with the label that they're on they get the chance to tour with the big boys every once in awhile.. As for studio time.. all they've done so far is a few splits with a few other bands.. But they're going into the studio by Dec 31st to start on their full length.. But they've got a pretty good hookup with a few studio's so it doesn't cost them an arm and a leg plus it's pretty good quality. (not a guy in his basement with a 4 track)
yeah you're right, that's why small labels are nice.
though, I'm not going to record a full length if we're gonna have to pay for it ourselves!!!
that's why we need a label, but we are not ready for recording, we're stuck with university and shit, so it's just good fun untill now.
but who knows in the future..
we do get big gigs with 100+ people but it's just pure fun to have bigger audiences but ofcourse not too big, I wouldn't even want to play at ozzfest or something like that

You know what I just thought of that struck me as amusing? What if a bunch of Iced Earth fans went and fell in love with Limp Bizkit, and it irrevocably starts the downfall of real metal :D
Things to think about, hehe.

yes they do, except they got no money from ozzfest. $75,000 is a very small amount compared to the huge exposure a band gets from ozzfest...

i think death metal bands are more deserving of fame than bands like limp bizkit, and korn. there is soooo much more work that goes into this kind of music. it makes me sick to see that people think that the simplest music is so great, like disturbed, pod, etc. it can't take anymore than an hour to write shit like that, its so easy. then you have the twits that say things like "death metal sucks, you can't even understand what they are saying, its just a bunch of noise," it fucking pisses me off:kaioken: people are going to remain stupid though, and won't ever realize what real musical talent is, even if death metal gets the promotion.
Dissection
2003-07-18, 20:54
Or how about this: You take a bunch of talented bands (Suffocation, Dissection, Agalloch, Deeds Of Flesh, etc.) and put them on ONE TOUR. Then you charge 50 bucks to see 5 bands. Hell, if Iron Maiden charge 50 to see 2 shit band before they come on and kick ass, why not have 5 bands that ALL fucking own? Eh? Eh?? EH????!!!!
This is stupid, the lat thing metal needs are a bunch of 12 year olds running around acting like they like some band that openied up for Limp Bizkit.
$50? Christ the most i ever paid for a concert like taht was $25 for Slayer. $18 to see Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, and Macabre.
Dissection
2003-07-21, 20:26
Still. Wouldnt you pay 50 to see 5 really good bands?

What the??? Iced Earth with limp Bizkit????? Wich crapass Stupid idiot comes up with this dumbass idea... I mean Common 2 totaly different kinds of music. That is not going to work :S And also because bands like iced earth would rather see Fred Durst getting raped by a bunch of large rapnegro's and then being beaten to death by their wifes
DistorteD
2003-11-29, 19:03
Like Darko said, IE isn't for everyone..... Opening for nu-metal kids who we're bored of those :flame:compusynthesiserelectronic crap and are are expecting those metalrappers:cool:, could realy win a lot of young fans who missed the good old roots of metal. As I read somewhere that IE fans, as most other heavy metal are realy dedicated to their music, only the true metaldudes will be won for real metal:beer:
I guess it's a great way to just show how to use those instruments the right way and playing music with real balls and let tose sucka's cramp up after.

By the way, has anyone seen the new Bizkit video? I saw it because I was music video television things because I have nothing better to do with my life, and I came across two astounding revelations:
1. Bizkit's new guitarist is...oh, I don't know, I'd say he's about 14? 15 years old? Hmm...
and
2. He's kidnapped a girl who looks about 30 years younger than him and is rapping to her about eating her alive or whatever that phrase is a metaphor for.
God damn. Seriously.

It's not his latest clip anymore, he has a new clip already now witch i saw when i was painting the ceiling and the walls at home, i wasn't really paying attention but it seems that his latest song is an oldie from the band "the who" .. the original sounds ok from the who but again Limp Bizkit turned it into a song witch brings out stuff i would prefer to keep it inside ---->
I still hope that somebody would do the world a favour and just let Huge piano fall down right on top of that fred durst, so i can piss on the leftover remainings of his bloody squashed corpse. sorry normaly i am not that violent but for him i can make an exception

iced earth and limp bizcut?!? limp bizcut fans would never like that,
whenever someones heres what i listen to(Opeth Mostly) half the time they say "do you worship Satan?" and i reply "you sir, are an ignorant bastard" and if a limp bizcut fan said that they liked iced earth it's probably just so they could say "I'm HARDCORE like that" to try and impress people who don't know any better.......(feeling tense, need more drinkies :drunk:
