Man these guys fucking rock! I fuckin love the lyrics off of the Scepter of The Ancients album. every so often they have some riffs in their songs that really remind me of decapitated, in a good way. Too bad these guys live in god damn Tasmania, I really would like to see them live. Psycroptic on myspace (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=32303992)

Indeed. I don't think their getting to the Western Hemisphere is too far off though.

I hate how this band is labelled as tech had me hoping for too much, apart from that rather good stuff.

Inaphyt dumbs up the threads once more.

Stop calling bands that are from Tasmania "Bands from Tasmania", unless you are from Australia, because Tasmania IS Australia, it's no different. Tasmania is a state of Australia.

Anyway, cool band. I think the lyrics suck. Nice riffs.

Out of curiosity, what bands' lyrics do you enjoy?

I wish they still had the old vocalist, which seems to be a common complaint, however they are one of my favorite bands, and write some of my favorite lyrics.

.

NOT fantasy. And NOT intellectual for the point of being intellectual. Emotion/Personality > Everything else.

Psycroptic's lyrics for the most part are based around social criticism, there's nothing fantastical about em and they don't drown you in intellectual vocabulary imo, just read the lyrics to Color of Sleep.

I heard they canceled off Maryland Deathfest this year, shame. Kickass band.

Infinity
2007-04-21, 01:35
Their points are impersonal and overdone IMO. They are just lyrics for lyrics sake.

Oh and not fantastic? "Skin Coffin" "The Valley Of Winds Breath And Dragons Fire" "The Scepter Of Jaar-Gilon"

please read these lyrics and tell me their metaphorical meaning behind Dragons, Aliens and Serial Killers so I can apply it to real life and read these as NOT fantasy.

Soeru
2007-04-21, 01:38
I didn't say all of their lyrics were serious, but how do you know they're not using those themes as metaphors? Read some of the other ones on Scepter, they deal more with social issues. I think there are more of these kinds of themes on the first album too but I haven't really read most of it. Regardless they're pretty well written, not overdone or anything.

Well that certainly didn't answer the question. I can take a guess though, you're a big fan of Pantera lyrics?

I don't see a point in worrying about lyrics in this genre you can't hear the words so i personally just treat it as another instrument.

Yeah, they're awesome. The lyrics don't do anything for me but the write/play well. I can't really get into their latest release, though.

I don't know why its a problem with someone saying they're from Tasmania and why its necessary to yell at them for that. They live and write in Tasmania and a fan will most likely want to be 100% accurate when saying where they come from whether its exotic or not. The more I think about that, the more gay it gets.

"Where are these guys from?"
"Hawaii"
"Dude, don't say they're from fucking Hawaii unless you live in the U.S.! The nerve of some people!!!"

Yep.

I liked reading their lyrics, however you're more the poet than me so...

They are definantly technical death metal. For fucks sake I hope Inaphyt gets an arm amputated, so he'll take longer to type his responses thus having to think longer about whatever the fuck he's being dumb about.

?!?! I love the sound they get on Scepter. Not excessive, not too weak, you can hear all his playing, just perfect for me IMO.

Don't you just love that grind in the first few chords of "The Color of Sleep"?

Yeah definite Decapitated and Vader influence in there with all that use of inverted powerchords, I love that sound.

Infinity

This band really sounds nothing at all like Decapitated or Vader. Nothing.

They have Decapitated's tightness, but then, how many bands are they tight. The riffs are absolutely nothing like Decapitated at all. And Vader sucks.

Soeru

Yeah seriously, grow an ear. Even their guitarist cites Vader as a huge influence, and they kick ass. If you listen to "Nihility", you'll know just how much influence they've had in their sound as well. And Decapitated have shitloads of Vader influence especially on the earlier stuff(which is way better than The Negation or Organic Hallucinosis).

Infinity
2007-04-24, 04:17
Lol ok, they might have influences, doesn't mean that they fucken sound like it. Might have influenced to pick up a guitar etc. The riffs and sound of Psycroptic really don't sound anything like Decap or Vader.

But if you wanna play that game, well then Psycroptic also have Black Sabbath influences! Who in turn have Wagner influences! Who in turn have influences from fuck heads banging animal skins with their hands! Blow me.

Lol, and grow an ear? Hahahahaahahaaaaaa

Psycroptic do these quick little palm-muted lines that Decapitated is pretty much known for, I hear a very big influence of Decapitated in Psycroptic, "Winds Of Creation" was the first album I can recall that had these kind of stop-start palm-muted lines.

Soeru
2007-04-24, 05:10
Hmm but they also make heavy use inverted powerchords, tremolo pick lines with very similar melodies, have extremely similar guitar tones on their sophomore albums, do a lot of legato-ish riffs, both tune to D(psycroptic in drop D), have a relatively similar vocal approach, amongst many other things.

Just find me another band that sounds as much as Psycroptic as Decapitated does.

Infinity
2007-04-24, 05:18
Fuck, you got me, no other bands in the history of mankind ever used inverted powerchords, treblepicking and a dry guitar tone. And heaven forbid if a band tunes to D or Drop D [Decapitated are actually in D flat] and uses harsh vocals. Holy shit! Oh my fucking god. Wow. Amazing.

Right, but what other band does it in such close proximity with Psycroptic, besides Decapitated? I think that was the question.

I've never heard Vader, and I'm not too big a fan of Decapitated, but I do agree that Psycroptic sounds a fair bit like Decapitated.

Not many bands LIKE them in Australia, but many bands that are great. Australias underground scene is quite remarkable, due to the feeling of networking and connectivity in a small continent. Every band knows every band, it's like a big family. Try -

Berzerker
Psychrist
Oni
Omnium [formally Omnium Gatherum, changed name due to some gay melodic band already having the name]
Charcoal Human
Biceptasaurus
Stargazer
Portal
Tsunzu [Tzuntzu? check myspace]

etc.

Holy hell you do. Nihility and Winds of Creation are by far their best IMO. The First Damned is a good one too, it's a collection of their first 2 demos and some live songs. Sadly I don't like the direction they took afterwards, but I still bought their last record and support em and everything, they're the primary band that got me into real death metal.

I have a cover of one song from the WoC album here if you want a sampling first:

Though you can't hear the actual song clearly too much, I just overdubbed the mp3 with my gtr playing. :p
