View Full Version : Trey Azaghtoth( Morbid Angel): The true
FormatoA3

MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth has posted the following message on his MySpace page:
"This post may seem strange to some of you but I see it important to state.
"OK, how do I even start...
"Well, this that I will say will not in any way surprise those of you who really know me as a person, but for those of you who do not perhaps you will be well confused.
"OK, I'm here on MySpace to have a personal account and meet people, other artists, thinkers, ones with beauty, intellect and somewhat centered with their life.
"What I mean is people who are past that rebellious stage in their life and are filled with joy and love. This is where I am. The only thing that would be viewed by myself at this time as a negative is ignorance, ignorance to what life is really about, being that of LOVE, BEAUTY, JOY and the celebration of such. The celebration of CREATIVITY.
"I don't want comments that are 'evil' or whatever; it's quite unnecessary. That kind of stuff is better to send to those other bands, not me.
"I only want to be a part of joy and the celebration of the gifts we all have as people filled with the beauty of SPIRIT.
"All these overly dark and evil comments really bore me and it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with where I am in my life.
"Like I said, some of you who read this may find it confusing or something, I'm sorry. I have my own thoughts in my head now and I have nothing to rebel against, nothing to be freed from. Nothing to hate, period.
"I have only love for you and my art is to interrupt the illusions that hold so many today. So that perhaps, the REAL SELF will be realized, and IT IS ONLY LOVE."
 :behead:
It cant be true! and all your song ????????
Trey's always been into alternative spirituality, and even if the trip from the Ancient Ones to Deepak Chopra might seem a little strange, it really, really isn't. Anyway, I don't see the problem with a guy who wants to express his joy for life through his music, even if the music is dark. Nor with a guy stating that he's grown out of a lot of metal's stupider trappings.

even though i feel that he went a little overboard on the message he is putting across, but in a sense, its sort of refreshing. i have no problems with what he has said, other than that i think he could have toned down the enthusiasm just a tad. heh, :)

I wonder if Dave Vincent and Pete Sandoval feel the same way...
Don't be too frightened, he doesn't sound like he is really converting to another religion (not sure what he believed prior to this), just getting smarter. No one listens to me, but playing chromatic riffs night in and night out for decades will soften you up a bit. :p

He writes better music than what you could ever be capable of.
Trey>All other death metal guitarists, Suicmez included.
Trey has always been like this, it should not surprise you if you bother to read some of the bands' lyrics. It's not about sacrificing virgins and raising the dead anymore, Morbid Angel abandoned childish superficial lyrical themes long long ago. The music is about life, self-realization, not gimmicky violence or cheesy Satanist lyrics.

In my book, hes up there, but I dont think any DM guitarist will ever come close to Chuck Schuldiner and what hes done for the genre
That's nonsense, cunt.
I never said I hated tranny or that other dude, but I'd like to see their quick-to-criticize asses come up with better music. Stop making such retarted comparisons and shut up..
Neither of you could write anything even 1/4 as memorable or enjoyable as his music, so I kindly suggest you stop talking shit about a band that has well over 20 years of history in making great music. The vast majority of worthwhile death metal bands you listen to now are either highly influenced by them or totally ripping off their sound.
I like how both Tranny (who acts like he has any influence in inforcing rules upon other members) and Reqtum go out of their way to come into a thread just for the opportunity to make an off-topic post criticizing one of the biggest influences in Death Metal. If you're not going to talk about Trey's benevolent attitude, then don't fucking post. If you don't like Morbid Angel, thats fine but this isn't a thread asking for your shitty opinion about the band.
And Tranny, you shouldn't be talking - I've heard your attempts at riffs and creativity.
Wow, are you guys really upset by this? I mean he is right, the only thing worse than terrible evil gore lyrics are the faggot fan boys who post stupid shit on myspace about it. I was pretty confident that the majority of metal fans were above the stupid evil gimmick and saw it as something you just needed to deal with to enjoy a lot of great bands musicly. Can someone please explain why wanting to express one's love of life through music is bad instead of worrying about how evil or brutal something sounds, but rather how well it reflect the emotions you are trying to get across?
Also, the whole argument that "UNTIL YOU WRITE SOMETHING BETTER YOU CANT SAY ANYTHING" is a load of bullshit. We are on a fucking forum for christ's sake, the whole point is to discuss likes/dislikes, fuck i don't think any of us have a very good chance of being in a very well known influential metal band so we might as well all stop having negative opinions on current metal bands right?

There is no problem at all with Trey's outlook. Its good he told everyone to quit with the inane comments. I don't see anyone "freaking out" in here. Ha, when will you guys realize music is not a competition? I bet if somehow, in some magical far-off land, if all of us (metalheads) could agree on teh BEST metal band to represent the style as a whole, a country fan would think it is shit. Vice versa as well. Tranny thinks Necrophagist are really good, I think that they have found a new way to use a bunch of obscure scales to bore me.
Speaking of Necro, I'm seeing them live on Thursday, here's to hoping the overt technicallity doesn't bore the shit out of me in 10 minutes.

I personally dont mind those sorta lyrics so long as theyre expressed in a creative way. Stuff like Deicide and Acheron...those kinda lyrics just make me wanna cringe. Bands should put more creativity into their lyrics rather than have chorus lines like "Kill the Christian....DIE!!!!" But, so long as theyre done in an artistic way, I really dont mind "evil" or "satanic" lyrics

Exactly. I thought it was the same but when there's people posting bands in this very same forum with the lyrics:
"Satan you are a loser, the victory has be won, CHRIST
is going to crush your head and grind you to a pulp,
Hammering Satans Head, Hammering Satans Head,
Hammering Satans Head, Crush his skull, Hammering
Satans Head, Hammering Satans Head, Hammering Satans
Head, Crush his skull, Hammering Satans Head,
Hammering Satans Head, Hammering Satans Head, Crush
his skull, Hammering Satans Head, Hammering Satans
Head, Hammering Satans Head, Crush his skull."
and it's getting a descent amount of commendation, you question whether or not death/grind will ever truly be able to push past '666 InVeRtEd CrOsS SaTan = RulZ!!!1!!!!!1!!!', or in this particular case '666 InVeRtEd CrOsS SaTan = GHEY!!!1!!!1!'

Way to insult the vast majority of genuine MA fans. Morbid Angel's new material is just as good as their old(in fact, all the Tucker albums are better than Domination IMO), so hush your fucking mouth.
Like other death metal drummers don't trigger their drums. May I remind you that Pete was one who popularized the use of acoustic drum triggers in extreme metal? 99% of DM bands these days use them. And he's just as good without them, go watch any oldass rehearsal videos or watch him warm up at a fucking show.

You missed the thick guitar sound? What are you talking about Heretic and Gateways production are so similar!
Heretic had lower-fi production, Gateways was more pro. Heretic is an amazing album but the production is the reason why most people didn't like it. The music is still amazing as the older albums(in fact it tastes a lot like Altars with a melodic FFtF edge to me), so not liking it to any extent is unacceptable. It IS my least favorite, but I enjoyed it more than Domination, it had better riffs for the most part.
Heretic doesn't sound triggered at all, don't know what the fuck you're talking about, especially if you bitch about drum triggering and like Gateways when it had competely electronic drumming.

Actually he decided to make his profile private again because too many anonymous people were posting dumb shit on his profile and harassing him. No, it's not. But anyway, drum triggers are things you put on the kit and when you hit the kit [kick drum skin, snare skin, arch enemy drummer even has triggered symbols!] it creates an electronic noise which can be mic'd up, think of it as sorta giving an acoustic kit electric sounds - and i dont mean distorted techno electric either.

They're mainly used to process the drum sound to even out the kick drums and make the snare louder (especially during gravity blasting). Heretic has to possess one of the most heavily triggered drum sounds I've ever heard.

Gateways sounds even more triggered(it was an electronic drum set), give that a listen. Heretic's drums were triggered but they sounded pretty friggin natural and raw, unlike what the vast majority of DM bands do these days that sound a bit too machine like and modern.
99% of death metal drummers trigger their drums these days both live and on records, so I really don't know why so many people bitch about drum triggering.

Cleansed in Pestilence, Praise the Strength, Stricken arise and Beneath the Hollow have really great grooves and fast blasting vibes too. The ambient/instrumental tracks on it were also very nice. The whole album has an awesome feel, every song is pretty memorable, I just wish they focused a bit more on production though, it could've been such a great album if it didn't all sound all like a fuzzy demo tape from 1989. Tucker also busted his ass lyric wise on the album, which is cool to see someone besides trey writing everything.
I actually own the album, the edition with the bonus CD that has a bunch of demos/no-vocals versions of the tracks and seperate solos. Really nifty. I never play the CD though, it stays stashed away with my autographed copy of Altars, Covenant and FFtF. :stoned:

It's nifty, but I think it's not enough for a band of their stature, especially not in '04. :p
Their sound engineer punchy said the album was mixed so that it sounds better at high volumes, given the tremendous amount of midrange that was put into the mix. Instead of boosted bass and treble, which sounds good at mid-low volumes on home stereos, but like shit at high volumes like many death metal records. Only Trey was really happy with the production, Steve and Pete were sort of like "wtf I can't hear my own playing". :p
