Been recording my bands first demo recently and just put down some vocals for one of the tracks and would appreciate any feedback or comments or whatever. I'm a guitairist rather than a vocalist so I need lots of practice still.

Hahaha!
Good point. I say we all get sounds like concrete slabs being dragged across car parks so we can forever eliminate piracy!

Very phlegm-y, your voice. And very odd pronunciation.
Other than that, you have the depth and tone, I would say.

sounds like sauron on wings up a little bit higher. watch breathing near the mic, when you do the gutturals i can "feel" the air from your voice in my subwoofer
This will either be offensive to you or a compliment, depends how you take it, but do you use effects on your voice?

Haha, no dude. Well, just a bit of compression and what not and alter the EQ slightly to help it in the mix but no distortion or pitch shifting or anything.

Thanks for the support dude. I'll whack all the demo songs on line in a while when they're done, they're all pretty rough at the moment though so they need to have parts re-recorded.

Real good stuff man, how long have you been doing DM vocals? Sounds like you've had a good bit of practice already, but I'd say focus on the regs in your songs, there's something strange in your gutturals, maybe practice that more (just being extra critical don't think I'm an asshole) Do you do the guitars as well?

Yeah I play guitar too. The only time I've really done vocals previously is when I've been recording solo stuff. I've never had any regular practice really, but that'll change soon enough.

Can you scream at all? I would have loved to heard some screaming in there, but thats just me, I guess.
Still have some brutal vocals, though. :)

Yeah I do a bit when playing live, but for some reason I couldn't pull it off properly when doing the recording. Probably something to do with the fact that I recorded it in my bedroom and didn't want the neighbours to think I was being raped. I did a bit in Playing Dead but it wasn't up to much and got a bit lost in the mix. I'll have to start belting them out in future recordings.

New tune up at www.myspace.com/uglymetal which has my attempt at a bit of black metal screaming in it. Having said that, it was recorded at a practice on a Saturday morning in the middle of a Thursday-Monday pissup, so it's perhaps not what it could have been.

Sounds good! I'm no vocalist but something I notice people struggle with is holding a note, a lot of would-be-DM-vocalists fail to recognise the noises they make need to be in some key etc.
Do you use multi tracking? I think you'd have fun expoerimenting with the Glen Benton thing of doing one track with more spoken vocals and still keeping the brutal stuff, but mix it together. Can't think of any song names for examples as they've all been ones I've heard in mate's cars etc :stoned:

That new songs a live recording so no multi tracking there, but yeah, for the others I've double tracked my vocals. Not tried that 1 brutal, 1 clearer technique, but I might have a play around with it next time I have the chance.
