I've been doing DM vocals for about 2 years now and just want to see how I'm coming along. My main problem at the minute is getting the vocals perfectly in the mix along with the other instruments.

I thought I was getting on pretty well with guttural vocals but when I recently played it to a friend he said they aren't powerful enough to go with the music.

Anyone have any tips for me? And yes the song is on myspace which I know a lot of people here don't like, but anyway click on "Extinguishing the Flame" the other songs aren't death metal they're mostly joke songs.

Cool music.

I agree with your friend though, your vocals need a bit more "power"...kind of sounds like your not putting much effort into them. Other than that, your vocals are great.

Put your balls into it. Get some more power behind them and you'll be pretty sweet.

great music, great vocals. It could just be production that makes it seem un-powerfull imo. Not that it really does to me.

Remove the high vocals lol :P

You will be a great singer if you put force into it.

First let me just clarify that Why Angels Fly is a joke song, sung while my friend was sat beside me laughing his arse off.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, sometimes you just get used to your vocals and need a different perspective. I do agree that I don't put any balls behind it, mainly because of neighbours and family, but I'll try to in future.

Hey how do you do your gutturals? Yours don't sound at all like mine or loads of brutal DM bands theirs, low reg growls? or gargle? Anyways, for standard gutturals they sound more than powerful enough, if you were to compare them to more Barnes Tomb/Butchered at Birth style low regs I'd still say they have enough power. Maybe your embarresment is holding you back, well it was holding me back, just say fuck it and do it as loud as you can before it starts to sound funky, although I think it's real good man, keep it up. (PS now I've heard the screams I can't help but liken your vocals to Butchered at Birth era Cannibal Corpse.) Good stuff.
