Hi, i just want to know how i can pick as fast as Kreator in the song "flag of hate"
I tried long times.
But they don't move their arms... i don't know
something with their fingers of wrist ... Or the way they strike their pick.
But i strike mostly other strings too... :s
Help me !
Keep practicing.
Try using just a "wrist" motion rather than moving you're whole forearm.....this will strengthen your wrist a lot faster (which is good) and you won't get as tired as you would by moving your arm. Also.....since there's less mass to move, it's easier to play faster.
Combine all those things and you're ready to do some sweet tremolo picking. Oh....and hold your pick quite firmly.....you don't want it flying out of your fingers in mid-play.

dont even move your wrist...move your fingers. Try picking 3 notes on an open low E in one downward motion. AND DONT TENSE UP! its all in the fingers...and a little bit in your wrist.;) ...it is possible to get 3 notes in one downward forearm motion.

I've seen on the videos and live that they mainly use their wrist
Well Just relax and just concentrate.
keep tightly the pick between your thumb & index finger.
By the way Flag of hate is not that fast.
If you like kreator you probably know of the song world beyond from Coma of souls
That one is fast good to practice on.
No, i only bought their last album "violent revolution"
But i saw flag of hate live at Graspop.
A question... is it possible that they use an Echo-Pedal so they don't have to play so fast.

I Don't really know about effects and stuff
but I don't believe they use that kind of stuff to make them play faster
I know people that can play their songs without any FX so Keep practicing

if u really wanna thrash pick at a decent speed what you do is you get a pick thats a little rounded at the end and never acually take it off the string. just use ur wrist to move it up and down. dont acually pick the notes, its more like rolling them off the string, if that makes scence

If you already know the Kreator riff you're trying to play, but just can't play it up to speed, then take the riff, and a metronome, and slow it down. Way down. Play it with the metronome, and speed it up gradually until you're hitting the speed. Be patient with this, it will take some time.

Same answer, tremolo picking via wrist movement. This takes a long time to develop and most people start out using finger movement and gradually transition naturally (myself included). I would stick to a thick pick and shape it like homeskillet earlier in this thread mentioned. Back in the hey day, every time I saw a guitar pick at a show by Death Angel, Testament, Vio-Lence, Death, Dark Angel, etc... it was almost always a Blue Tortex pick. If you use the same pick for several weeks of solid tremolo picking abuse it will naturally wear out into the best shape possible on it's own. Save that pick and manually shape your new picks to have the same wear pattern.

dont play banana fingered, it'll fuck you all up. its all in the wrist not the arm. loosen up first take a shot or something to loosen your muscles.

i don't really think there IS a "right way," i think you just have to try them all out and pick which ever one suits you. personally, i use my arm.

If you look closely at that video, Jeff uses a combination of wrist and arm movement and varies the amount of arm movement depending on the aggression factor and where he's at on the fretboard. He also uses a closed fist pick holding technique as do both guitarists from Deicide. I have been experimenting with this and I like it a lot, but it is difficult to get used to not having your pinkie as an anchor.

I only know tremolo picking with fingers when it comes to acoustic guitar (especially in Spanish Music), you use three fingers and do tremolo picking with your nails... I guess that doesn't work out for electric guitar..... The wrist is the essential part when it comes to tremolo picking on electric guitar
For Angel of Death I use about 90-95% wrist, and the rest Arm - I found this works great for any really fast trem picking - I use wrist only if its not too fast, but to get it goin really fast I've found SLIGHTLY moving your arm can help quite a great deal.

Seriously, my friend has perfected his art of picking for long periods of time (not as fast or as long as I can, but I actually took the time to practice) by beating it five times a day for the past few years...

f it feels comfortable it shouldn't hurt you. And techniquewise it doesn't matter.

have fun playing with your arm its all in thw wrist. i play really fast technical shit sorta like decrepit birth and severed savior speed shit. so its all in the wrist alot of the riffs i write are around 300 bpm so its impossible to try and use your arm.

Is it entirely wrong to use your forearm to tremelo pick fast? I use my forearm i think and i can get to about 300bpm or more. I try using my wrist but i cant really do that for shit. But if the method im using now doesnt affect me in anyway, should i still try to change it, or continue with whatever feels comfortable to me? (the way i tremelo pick)

right on man, stamina is what we need the most for that fast shit casue the new song i wrote for my band my arm is hurting halfway through due tot he fact that the tremelo is crazy fast then theres some killer downpicking going on. the afterwards my arm is dead.

Listen to Joel Wanasek, he knows how to pick well, and he says to use your wrist for a few important reasons:
