Nordvang
2006-02-05, 14:15
This is my first try at this kinda thing.. I have done some orchestral stuff before, but never tried to cover another non-orchestral song before..
Granted that Emperor songs are usually pretty orchestral, its still a challenge

you're being coy about what you used :P
Damn dude! what soundfonts did you use? Couldnt hook a brother up, could you? I do the same sort of stuff with my band but Im always looking to improve it, and that stuff sounds awesome.

Nordvang
2006-02-05, 15:55
I used East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Silver..
Not the very best of samples, but its affordable..
Thanks, Ill hunt it down and see if I can afford it; it didnt sound like a compromise at all, it totally works and sounded professional
Edit: damn, lol, thats outta my price range. Nevermind.
How long did all this take anyway? I find it interesting.

do you have to dl all of the 'dvdr-#' for it to work?
rabbifoodslicer
2006-02-08, 23:26
no they all just have the same name so they tagged on a .01 or .02 and what not (the files are the same i believe. if you click on them it should drop down a little window thing and you can compare them that way)

Nice work Nordvang. How easy is that program to use?
AaronDonahue
2006-02-10, 18:58
Wow, that sounds amazing!
I wonder how that program works... by the way those DVDs are all different. It's the Gold version that seems to be like 4 DVDs and the silver is only 1.

2006-02-12, 21:31
What program did you use with this? Do you have a MIDI keyboard or something?
guitar_demon
2006-02-12, 22:15
read the thread, he tells you what program
AaronDonahue
2006-02-13, 01:54
Yeah, but that's just a plug-in. What other program did he use to record it with is what I'd like to know

^ have you finished DLing yet? Its not that simple.
The tool that the samples comes with is only to sculpt and modify the samples and save instruments to .nkm and .nki files.
Ive tried importing these in to cubase via the kontakt VST instrument plug in, and numerous others, and they just wont... I just want to use them as sound fonts, really, but its harder than I thought.

2006-02-14, 00:04
Yeah, sheesh.
This just isn't working for me, I gotta get a good soundcard. Mine is a shitty onboard one.
ImBored, maybe try downloading Kontakt 2.0 and loading the samples through there. I think the modified Kontakt they give with it might not be that compatible.

I used Sonar 5 as a sequencer and I have a Roland midi keyboard. The Kompakt app that comes with Silver is a VST & DXi sampler.
Just load it into any sequencer that supports VST or DXi, load some instruments in Kompakt and there you go. You need lots of RAM though. I have 1Gb and that is barely enough.
I am working on a full album with my project/band called Quadrivium.
That sounds ace. Thanks for all the help.
Be sure to link us to your band though when youve got some stuff done!

I salute you Nordvang. This is really impressive effort. No less good than those did by Ihsahn, though very noticible a bit icy large room reverb in production. Awesome \m/
