Maple fingerboard and Lemon Oil?

I have always heard that do not use lemon oil on maple fingerboards guitar? I was wondering why. It even says that on Dunlop Fretboard 65 lemon oil in the instructions.

i did use it only my old guitar with maple (it was a behringer so i dident really care) and i dident notice anything bad happening
