I liked the video. Van Halen was cool until they took a more commercial direction, but he still was a great guitarist and inspirational to tons of people. Sure he's not Malmsteen and didn't invent tapping but no other rock guitarist was doing it at the time, string tapping rules, bitches! Halen and Azagthoth are two of my favorite guitarists, but I worship Azagthoth more for his songwriting rather than solos, although some solos are really kick ass("Where the Slime Live").

Edit: The joke from Airheads was that the band was trying to figure out if the record label guy offering them a deal was "true", so they asked him a bunch of questions, like if he preferred Van Halen or some other guy. He said Van Halen and they tried to close the door flat on his face but then he said something else... I forget, I haven't seen that movie in about 4 years.

I am pretty sure Randy's tapping wasn't influenced by Van Halen. I am pretty sure he would say he would watch Eddie and alot of the things he was doing he already had the same ideas and had done them. Eddie just got into the business just one step ahead of him.

Got to see him play way back in '84 the only thing that ruined it was that cock in spandex Mr Roth, more costume changes than a catwalk model and trying to up stage everybody and he never stopped gobbing off!
