Which brand of 10-52 strings shall i buy??

hi guys, i have decided on some 10-52 gauge strings for my 24.75 scale les paul. the lowest tuning i will be going to is drop C.

The gauge is basically skinny top heavy bottom.

Question is, which brand shall i go for?

Ernie Ball?
GHS Boomers?
D'addario?

those brands seem the easiest to get for me here in the UK.

I think the GHS Boomers have a slightly thicker A string than the other brands i listed. does this make much difference?

I'd experiment a bit and see what you like. Myself, I use GHS Boomers 10-46 or something along those lines. I believe Zakk Wylde(Sp?) uses Boomers as well. At least they have a line of Zakk signature strings. And as far as thinkness goes...if you'll be playing mostly in drop C I'd go for the thickest, but if you'll play a lot in standard as well then I wouldn't want them to be too thick. I've played as low as drop A with mine and the strings weren't too slinky, so with a .52 low E you would be fine. Anyway, my advice is, like I said, I'd get one brand now, and when you replace them get something else. When you've used each brand you should be able to get a good enough idea of what suits you best.

ive never liked dadarios, but that my personal preference.

i'd get the ghs strings if it was my choice

D'Addario make the most consistent string, IMO. GHS Boomers are pretty bright.

I agree! I mostly use Earnie Ball strings, never really used any others. The sound pretty damn good for about 2 weeks and then go really dull, bit of a pain shelling out £7 every two-three weeks.

Try some "Dean Markleys" - I was impressed with their tone, feel and durability. Definately make your notes concise too...

i prefer d'addario. Not too expensive, and their sound remains consistent for a few weeks.

By the way, what do you mean they are the easiest to get? The local guitar shops don't carry anything else? If that's the case and you want something else, I'm sure you could find what you need on the internet for a decent price. But like I said earlier, I would suggest you use a variety of strings and see which brand suits you best.

Drop C? and 24.75" scale neck? I think you'll want a slight bit more on the low E string, like 54 or 56, the tension might be too weak at that guage and tuning.

GHS Boomer strings are like $3.50, get them from Amazon.com because they won't charge you any shipping(even though it's sent to you from a store like Music123 that do shipfuck you for $4).

I got the GHS ZW Boomers recently, 70-10 guage, at C tuning and it still feels weak for me, you pussies. :p The low-e string barely fit through my tuning peg.

I still don't know what brands are good. Earnie Balls were good at first then they quickly didn't sound so clear and sharp, a shame really. I hear Dean Markley's are the shit. I accidentally ordered an extra light Dean Markley(.8-.38, nickel steel) set so I haven't used it. I'll give it to anyone for a dollar if they want to pay the shipping. :p

What are the most uber-sharp, clear-sounding and most long-lasting string brands out there? La Bella?

Btw, it will eventually be necessary to adjust the truss rod if I change guages right? Cuz I've never had to yet, but I've already drastically changed guages and the neck hasn't warped. At first I had to use higher action on my last change(brutal .70-.10 set), but it eventually settled in and now I have it in Drop-A with very low action and no buzz(well, slight buzz at times on the 6th string, but in B tuning everything is perfect.

I bought those when I was just learning to play, and being newbish as I was five years ago I broke off the side of the nut trying to get the low E in. Still is broken. Doesn't really affect the string too much though.

I personally don't like really heavy gauges. I think the Boomers I use are light or light/medium. I mostly play in standard anyway... I play a lot more classic rock and blues than metal, and most of the metal I play is at the lowest drop-C. But even a few weeks ago when I tuned all the way down to drop-A the strings weren't too bad. A little fret buzz with the low-E when not amplified, but it wasn't a factor plugged in, especially with distortion. Besides, the best part about tuning lower, IMNSHO, is the sort of slinky effect. You can get some really cool shit going on when the string are that loose. Kinda like some of the bends in the "Walk" solo.

BOOMERS. I used to use ernie ball strings and the thicker gauge strings held up very well but the 10 string broke atleast once a month. when i switched to Zakk Wylde Boomers they sounded alot better and nevre break. :stoned:

I use D'Addario 10-52 and they last a while and sound consistently good. I normally play in standard tuning or C tuning (2 half steps down) and there is no problem with them. Additionally, I play alot of metal (death & thrash) as well as classic rock and these strings sound good either way.

I use Dean Markley and D´addario...you should compare some brands and find the best string of every single brand.

I wouldnt use only one brand.
For example, imo, the D´addario A and D-strings suck, so I use Dean Markley A and D-Strings and for the rest I use D´addario strings.

You should experiment a bit until you have your personal top 6 strings. ;)

I've tried everything. Dean Markley, D´addario, Ernie Ball but none can stand taking a beating and still keep their tone eccept for DR strings. Now I'm only going to play DR strings.

DR strings are wicked. Very bright and keep their tone for a long long time.
Shadow's Fall (even though I hate them) play DR strings and tune to drop C.
Another good thing about them is that you don't need to have thick thick strings to play in a low tunning and worry about them flopping around. I use DR High Beams Light n' Heavy 10-52 for B tunning. However I may move it up higher.
