I have the newer album if you'd like more of it. I'm starting to get more into metalcore/hardcore and the sort. If anyone has the Between the Buried and Me album, contact me on aim tomorrow after 4pm EST. I'm off now.

I think this band is talented, but I dislike the style of music they play. When I listen to music, I want relentless badass riffs without emoism, dropped a tuning, or breakdowns.

Is it me or ever since this whole label of "emo" was created, anything song or band that has a love song suddenly emo? Then I guess bands such as Type O Negative, Vehemence, Exhumed, and Impaled are emo now because they all have at least one song that deals with the subject of emotion. That's the stupidest label ever, BTBAM and plenty other metalcore bands are not emo just because they have a song about a chick they fuck.

I like how people label BTBAM as "emo" because they have parts in their songs with singing and clean guitars. It's not even emo, it's actually good melodies being sung and the way the parts are written they really fit the song. I know some people like to hear stuff that is just non stop fast or heavy or whatever, but to me these guys have such a refreshing sound. Plus I just saw them live not too long ago with The Red Chord and they are amazing. Red Chord was amazing too.

Power metal? BTBAM? What?

I'd say BTBAM has the most potential out of any band I know. They write absolutely incredible lead guitar parts, very nice riffs, and even throw in a chorus here and there. I wish they'd learn how to string those riffs together a little bit better and create some songs.
I've been listening to Alaska a lot lately, and I love it, but I can't help but feel they could have done so much more.

As I said in here, I've a friend who's into emo and says that the vocalist SOUNDS PRETTY FUCKING EMO in the clean parts. Not just because they look hardcore, or are melodic, or sing about chicks, they SOUND emo. Its mainly how the vocals are sang though, and the clean parts would sound a lot better without them.
I think the clean parts are well done though, because they could sound monotonous otherwise with just unrelenting, heavy as fuck riffs (like Origin)
I've bought The Silent Circus and really like it. The chaotic riffs and structures, as well as the abrupt changes are fucking awesome. They even inspired the last song I wrote, which I just posted in the songs thread.
I like BTBAM but I accept they have emo sounding parts.
As far as other hardcore bands go, check out Converge. Especially The Saddest Day.

I fucking adore btbam i find the clean vocals some of the best part of the songs even though it may sound emo I think the way its put together is perfect.you should cheak out botch there really good also.

yes power metal, if you listen to the song Alaska the opening riff is very power metal-esque.

Arpeggios don't make a song power metal! Pearl white unicorns and merry men in tights in enchanted forests with loyal elves and fierce dragons make a song power metal.

Man...
Just heard this band for the first time a couple days ago. Downloaded all their albums, and holy shit... They fuckin rock! I love it! The guitar sounds so killer... melodic, atonal, abrutp, so many different elements. I love their sweeps! Anyone think the singer sounds somewhat like Lamb of Gods singer?
I'm sorry, I am just going to admit it. I downright hate this band. Their style of over technical riffs and arpeggios with clean parts, whatever, and the "metalcore" breakdowns and influence just turn me right off. I can't stand it.

incredible band. I saw them live with The Red Chord and it was an amazing show. Their sweeps...my god. i just can't get enough of them. The last half of the song Selkies: The Endless Obsession off of Alaska is just amazing. i couldnt stop listening to it for like a month.

haha no way bro.,I do like "The Silent Circus" better but, holy shit Alaska rules.Better than anything that has come out of metal the last few months.
I've had Alaska for well over a month and still haven't given it a proper listen. From what I've heard, I prefer the clean interludes in this album to Silent Circus and they seem more well defined, if you know what I mean.

power metal does have a certain sound though besides the lyrics geesh..... but just because alaska has some sweeps in the beginning doesnt make it power metal omg.

they both have their moments... but silent circus overall is better. Alaska is almost more for the fan of really heavy chaotic riffs(which are awesome dont get me wrong) but there was more variance in circus :smash:

Seeing as I'm fair and balanced, and have an entire day to blow because I skipped school, I'll give it a listen.
For good metalcore, though, I suggest:
Bleeding Through, Unearth, Martyr AD, Dead to Fall (considered hardcore, though), and As I Lay Dying. Thats all I feel like suggesting, so IM me if you want any more.
