Right this is the thread where you can post pictures of Unique and Interesting Basses, and we can all drool, hurl, or generally comment over them.. etc, heres a picture of a Paul Mcartney Violin Bass, the most disgusting thing ive ever seen instrumentally-wise. :smash:
MetalPoldi
2002-07-08, 14:01
Yeah, these basses are really ugly. That design doesnīt work on a bass. Neither the les paul design works.
The rickenbackers are ugly, too. Although they have to outputs for real stereo sound.
Ohhhh, dudes....That bass kicks. Paul Macartney used something like that. And Tom Hamilton from Aerosmith.
I hate the body. I hurle everytime i see a picture of the beatles with that travesty of a bass in the picture.

wannabe you have no taste in bass (damn that rhymes :D )
cheers! to the ugliest bass ever!
Well... That bass must have a great sounding... Most of that design bass are cool :D
But it looks ugly, yeah.
walpurgis
2002-07-09, 13:04
Yep, looks horrid. Only thing I hate just as much is the damn Fender telecaster body style, which I think they've thrown on basses.
yeah, that shit that fender came up with, the Sting bass, with telecaster body, NOW that's ugly!
I don't like warwick either though, because of the weird body shape, and I hate the Ibanez ADB or something, that thing looks like an arrow or something
and the world most uglies bass is the DanElectro, dude those things look like airplanes haha
MetalPoldi
2002-07-09, 14:51
Do you mean the ATK-series. Yeah, the head looks ugly.
Why is the body design of Warwick weird? Perhaps the thumb-bass. But it isnīt that strange. Ritter (again, i know  :) ) is strange, or the one from DeArmond, this small one with latex-strings.
@ tatter3d
What the hell rhymes there?
walpurgis
2002-07-09, 14:52
Taste and bass dude...
yeah but the warwick's headstock looks like a flat turd or something man, I don't like it.
nah I didn't mean the ATK series but the ergodyne A series, those bitches with piezo pickups you know.. ADR or something.

Yes, i know. This one made out of luthite that looks like the newest generation of the Enterprise. I hate Star Trek (no offense against Trekkies, itīs just my opinion and just an example). The same with those "basslab"-basses.
yeah haha, I like StarWars way better, Hanz Einzelganger Rules! (han solo!)
:D
I do like the stingray design, you know MM...
but the warwicks are not for me, marleaux and ritter aren't for me either, fender isn't for me, peavey ain't for me and rickenbaker ain't for me..
ain't I a bitch ;)

Here's one that's bound to beat that piece of garbage.
http://www.espguitars.com/html/t_araya_esp.html
This bass gives me a boner it's so fucking cool.
I think this one is the same....except it has a little better features.
http://www.islanddefjam.com/www2/contest/slayer/esp_contest.html?d1=
Like double pentagrams on the 12th fret, and i think it says Slayer on the 24th. I love the body...fuck man.....it's a contest too!
Freezer666
2002-07-13, 12:01
meh, have to live in US to be elligible to their contest, like the other 293874298572439583745 cool contests out there...nice body tho
Well i entered the contest anyways.......i figured it included canada since it asked for "zip code/postal code" and "state/province".
walpurgis
2002-07-13, 19:32
Well memnoch, I think District of Columbia is actually considered a province (Washington D.C. for you dumbassses that are reading this) because it isn't a state...so I don't know.
And I don't really like either of those basses, honestly. I'll take a natural wood finish Carvin over about anything, anyways...but to compare the two, Araya's looks better, but barely.
Speaking of, I've never looked at any pictures of Tom Araya up close, he looks kinda fucked up...
Araya rules man.....no question about it.

Alright guys...there have been lots of threads made that just have a few replies in them, showing different basses, and mostly added by tatter3d. I'm merging them all to lower the number of threads, and just make it easier to view multiple ones...so I ask that if you're going to throw a picture of something up just for a "Hey, check this out!" sort of thing, please put it here.

When does it come to an 1-string?!?!?
ueuuhm, SORRY mister uberstormfuhrer Walpurgis! I didn't do that on purpose, but I was talking about posting those photos for ages, so I guess I got a little carried away....
anyways, I don't like those german basses, those esh thingies, but then again i don't like marleaux and ritter either!

yeah place it under a marshall 500 watt amp, and 'accidently', give it a very hard push, lol..crunch...!!!

yeah man I was thinking exactly the same!
I played on a bc rich bass once, it made me feel like I was playing a red lego guitar, haha it had this plastic red color, absolutely fucking marvellous :D

2002-10-21, 11:02
lol yeah they all have that thick bold colour, looks like pure plastic, what was it, one of them pointy bc rich basses, or them smooth virgin ones..

2002-11-26, 17:59
I like it. Seems like already Beethoven could've played on it.
damn that thing is ugly, it looks kinda violin like. but it's pretty damn ugly, it does look expensive because of all that carving done to the body (probably a hand job or something)
somehow it does not look like a bass :D hehe..
last week I played on a buzzard II, a full grafite bass, it was really sturdy but expensive as hell (not to mention ugly)
MetalPoldi

Isn't that the John Entwistle-Bass? Looks quite weird. It's from Status, isn't it?
I played on a Status with graphite neck, but i was disappointed. There was nothing special about it, in fact it had a quite bad tone. :(
yeah that's the bass!
it's also in the musikproductiv catalog I think!
I did like the feel of the bass, real sturdy but light in weight, the tone was a bit neutral, but I think that's because of the graphite stuff...
I wouldn't buy such a bass, it lacks warmth and depth, and its fucking expensive
MetalPoldi
2002-12-07, 12:41
I played yesterday on the Yamaha John Myung bass.
It's awesome. It has a quite small string-spacing, but it was comfortable to play on it.
Normally i dislike these stringspacings. Perhaps it was ok, becasue i was quite drunk. :D
I still feel drunk now
worked yesterday, soundtech for a hc show. man my head is beat up
I've played on that yamaha myself, but 6 strings aren't my thing, I'll stick to 5, the string spacing is to small for me (got big hands) and that bass is fucking heavy man.
MetalPoldi
2002-12-08, 10:16
I felt anything at that time. :D:drunk:
I hate small string-spacings, too. But anyhow it was ok. The guy, who had thE bass told me, that it's a very small stringspacing even for six-strings.
Yeah man, thats true but I still think it's a big motherfucker!
it even has twin thruss rods!
MetalPoldi
2002-12-08, 18:30
Two thruss rods are cool. You can do a very funny neck-shaping with two of them. :D
But this sign (this horizontal-8; "eternity-sign") on the fretboard is bullshit. You suppose that the middle of the sign is at the 12th fret. But it isn't. It's at the 13th fret. So i played a lot of crap this day: because of this displaced sign and the alcohol. :D
ahhahah :)
yeah I didn't even notice it was displaced I always have a 'feel' for the 12th fret so I don't look down on the fretboard much (except for the frets above the 14th, then you need to watch your fingers really often)

Looks like a freakin' violin. I've seen fat chicks that look better than that bass...Yeah, some of these companies make some fugly basses/guitars. I wonder who buys these deformed pieces of wood, probably blind people. Then again - looks aren't everything, some people buy for quality of tone and durablity.

no, seriously, if I would like their body shape then I would probably have bought one of those warwicks with musicman style pickups. they slap really nice.
It's just the design I don't like and they are pretty expensive I really prefer my ibanez to any warwick, but I've tried other -non prestige- ibanez's and they where pretty bad... mine's handmade :)
If I would ever buy another bass it would be a musicman stingray.

I have to admit I'm a freak who likes everything not built of wood. Luthite, carbon etc. I play non-wood basses for about 6 years now and sure there are goodies and
The sound of these basslab monsters really kicks ass, they have a very crispy sound both amplified and nonamped (they have hollow bodies on some of these things so they can be played accoustic), of course you have to like it...or not :)

Buzzard II? Isn't that this carbon-bass with the "cut-away" that looks like a joystick? That bass is so imense expensive and looks like  . But you can have it with LEDs, i think and it has the "roman numbers" as inlets in the fretboard. Or do i think of the wrong bass??

the entwistle buzzard...man wheres the trigger on that thing? never played it though, can't say anything...it sure looks weird :)
and yes i know the edc series, i actually owned one, but it got ran over by a truck (no kidding i mean it :() what i like(ed) about the edc is, that it has a very flat neck, so the playability is very good. considering sound, on my amp it sounds very good: clean, fat sound. as i checked it in the store on a lil weaker amp, it sounded sorta blurry, so i took it with me and gave it a chance "at home"...i was nowhere near disapointment then :) only flaw (beside the price ;) ): that thing looks light and slim, but i think it's quite heavy. maybe I'm a lil wuss after playing the curbow, which is bot slim and light but 3 hours on stage with the edc wasn't fun at all :)
I'm into anime too, maybe a lil deeper coz i was brave enough to touch it ;) but hell yeah, u could win any anime cosplay event with that one

thats exactly the curbow i have...when i bought it there were only two colours, red and blue...and the red went better with the rest of our "outfit" ;)
now for the infamous fucked by a truck story :
we played a gig, packed our stuff back in the truck. we were all tired and drunken like hell and so i forgott (omg i forgott it :bawling: ) to stuff in my edc, which unfortunately was in a softbag only. well we got in and drove off...
the last tone my edc made was a loud "crunch" as we drove over it...
yeah that's the Buzzard I played, I didn't like it, piece of shit for its price.
haha, allways buy a hardshell case!!! I'm happy my bass is in a hardshell case, she's protected by witchcraft too :vampire:

Here is a nice bass, Im not into 6 strings that much, never played one actually, but this is a beast, Its a Ibanez, it would look nicer in a dark blue or green tho :p
heheh, but still it sucks :S
I hit our vocalist with my old bass once, on stage, but it was so hard I knocked of a tuning knob, hahah, so I had to play my backup, that sucked!

sorta, the idea was from John Entwistle, he somehow got in contact with warwick 1985 and they built some 100 Buzzards or so..today there are some labels selling buzzards i think. if u want to know more, there is a good site with all kind of information

I personally wouldnt mind trying it out, it looks a bit tricky to play though, with two necks?!?!
Buganeer
2003-04-06, 06:20
i already got a chance to play a double neck bass, personally i would worry more about the 12 strings rather than anything else ;)
it doesn't look that bad, though u've seen my personal favorite if it comes to 2 neck basses (remember the Basslab monster?)
the main problem with 2 neck basses, is to find a solution how to strap it to your body. an adjustable strap would be best, coz when you setup the whole thing, to play the upper part, at least i had to really bend over to reach the lower neck ;)
i think that depends on how the thing is build. it's already enough to even carry such a klotz (it sure looks heavy :) ), but when it comes to hold the whole thing in position with your left when you play the 2nd neck...
Tattered

Nice basses, but Smith-basses are extreme expensive.
Buganeer
2003-05-16, 07:11
Agreed, nice thingies, but if u want a similar bass for two fortunes less o money i'll go for the Cort Artisan A series. They come with similar electronic and general setup. And compared to the most expensive smith electronics, the bartolini used here aren't that bad.
Also speaking tech now, i don't like Bubinga wood (ok, ok i don't like wood at all), but Bubinga is, imho, a wood that sounds too lush, not punchy enough for me, and the electronics have too much of a work there, if u want that punchin sound. The hard maple used with the A series is, imho, very well enough for the "normal" bass player, and much more easier to handle.
And they sure look alike: Cort A6 (http://www.cort.com/basses/artisan/index.html#a6)
Artisans are nice, especially for their money. Cort's electronics suck in general though, but I heard the later models have that problem fixed.
I dunno, I prefer the SR body style though.
No one has mentioned this site yet, so here it is.

Ive been recently ..well for 2 years.. fascinated with Warwick basses, there sound and there looks.. but now.. ive sorta discovered a new bass manufacture, a more decent sounding, better looking, and better bass . thanks to the sikth bassist..
http://www.seibass.com

Damn hard to find pics of these babies, got meself the bogart basic 6 string in dark blue. Too bad my digicam is out of action, maybe I'll resubmit some pics later ;)

yep, back. Had one hell of a ride with jobs the last year. Store I worked for had to close, so I jumped jobs and didn't have a lot of time. :bawling:
Well basically the Bogarts could be headless, but it's an interesting solution they took with their headstock design. You have to get used to it I admit, but the graphite neck definetly kicks major ass :D

Graphite neck.
Pencil neck ha.
ok that was stupid, anyways why is it that Bogarts could be headless? I don't really know anything about headless guitars, though I suppose it's essentially the same thing except you tune on the bridge. What are the advantages/disadvantages of a headless bass? Does it cost more? I think I saw a Death video in which Chuck Sculdiner played a headless guitar. Please feel free to ramble all sorts of info about headless basses.

Ok from my experience.
Advantages:
- more comfortable handling. since the mechanics and headstock are basically built in at the bridge, the neck becomes lighter. Not much maybe, but your back will feel even a few hundred gramms less over the time
- the above point negates all top heavy basses. Of course you can run into a tail heavy bass then, but almost all headless basses I found were perfectly balanced w/o any customization
- I found them to be more precise when it comes to tuning and they kept tuning longer. Given good enough hardware it doesn't matter what built is used on the bass, but in general headless is heavy duty and even under
difficult circumstances they keep tuning
Disadvantages:
- expensive, yes. Since headless basses are not mainstream, most of them are rare and therefor expensive (famous example the Steinbergs)
- matter of taste, most ppl don't like the look. From what I've heard from customers they look "unfinished", "broken" etc
Out of that list ppl argue over the sound headless vs. normal for years already. There are ppl who claim headless lost tone and balance by ripping the head off, other ppl say the neck gets more sustain that way. Endless fight ;)
Since I'm a fan of them, I can't really think of more disadvantages. Other ppl might continue this list :)

It would be pretty funny to see a guy use it in a death metal band, though.

yeah Micheal Spalt's basses are fragile looking but they sound increadable, espcially the magma because of its optical pick-ups. He made another line of bassed the vViper line and they are some of the most versitile instements i have heard because of the movable pickup. the hybrid line is also very ergonomical because all of the peices are moveable

Through necks are sexy. But Warwicks are really expensive. I find they are even overpriced. Since they have such a good reputation they make you pay a few extra hundred dollars for the name. Oh well ...
And yes those looks like they would break just from playing them.
