You adjust the tross rod adjustments and action when you change string tension because that causes your neck either to bend away (concave shape) from the strings when you put stronger string tension (thicker gauge or higher tunings) or bend to the strings with lesser string tension (thinner gauge or lower tunings). So my question is if you use the same gauge set of strings and same tunings all the time there is no need for adjustments at all (except if the guitar becomes old)?

depends, do u have a tremolo or not, cuz when i buy the same gauge of strings, the tension will be ALMOST the same (becuz the older string are mostlikely worn out snd therefore a but looser) but that shouldnt be a big deal, i wouldnt worry bout it, ive gone from 09 to 010 on a NON tremolo guitar without having to adjust anything so :beer:

You shouldn't ever have to adjust your guitar in that case but I would still check it twice a year to make sure nothing changes.

Yeah, I have a guitar w/ a floyd and I just blocked the whole thing some time ago. I was playing w/ strings that were like .10-.46 and now I just bought a new set that's like .10-.60...I'm wondering if I'll have to make adjustments on the bridge or truss or anything since I'm jumping waay up.

It really sucks ass on a Floyd. If your 12 fret is about the same note value as the open string it is played on then don't fuck with it.

Well I just changed the strings to the new set today. The D string is like really fucking tight when I try to tune it. I was afraid I was gonna break it or something, it's just really tight and hard to turn it to tune.

Tune the others first. Don't put all the tension on that string right away. IT WILL BREAK!

Edit: Better yet, one string replacment at a time and tune, play it out and tune all the strings agian, then replace the next one, and repeat.

I use to have a Floyd but than I hated adjusting the springs with changing every tuning and gauge of strings. That is why I went and bought a new guitar with a new fixed bridge and sold the one with the Floyd. It made my life much easier with a fixed bridge because it is simpler adjusting it.

Yes, you aren't supposed to take all of the strings off for that reason. The tension goes from nothing, back to what it should with strings on it, and so it becomes a bitch to tune. I'm going to learn how to adjust floyds for tunings soon so that I won't have to worry about it (because I'm going to start cleaning my fretboard everytime I change strings).

Naw, I did change 'em one at a time, I know how to pretty much set up a floyd, it's just that I guess there's waaay more tension and pull, compared to the lower guage strings I was using

Yea I always clean my fretboard after I get new strings, and have gotten pretty good at tuning up floyds and what not because of it. Its a good thing to know how to do, it makes me feel good after i set up my trem perfectly even after a new gauge of strings.

what size of strings should i use if i want to start tuning down to C or B? also, what kind of adjustments would i need to make if going from .10's (if any)?
