View Full Version : what is your guilty pleasure band/song?
There is always something that you kind of like but really hate to admit it.
I sorely admit that I am fond of that Jimmy Eat World song on the radio...
What about you guys?

Yeah, plus Moby kicks serious ass. That's just like Eminem to make fun of people who do nothing to anyone except be nice (and in Moby's case, trying to make the world a little better).

dude wannabe you need to seriously get out of this forum. do you actually listen to any metal?
I don't really know much about Moby, but i respect his work in trying to write something different from everything else that's popular.
And it pissed me off to hear eminem yapping about moby too...i mean fuck, eminem is no different than any other fucking rapper from the past 10 eyars..........except his skin is white.

Well, I'll speak for him then.
Powersofterror: You crazy bumtoucher! Zed Zeppelin has more talent than most of the bands we listen to here. Jimmy Page...he was the the first one to really shred on the guitar along with Hendrix. He was also the first one to start use weird guitar techniques such as using a string bow to play with. Plus they started "heavy"! If this SUCKEY band never happened, you wouldn't be hearing any of these bands you hear today that you like.
Oh yeah, one of the best bassists ever + legendary drummer.....
Andrew W.K.........

Alright there will be hell to pay. Led Zeppelin owns just about all the bands we ever talk about here. Jimmy Page owns on guitar, and Robert Plant just flat out is one of the best vocalists ever. Whoever says Zeppelin sucks, has some serious mental problems or are just plain fucking stupid.

OK, you guys with think me wierd but thats alright I like alot of the old rock as well as metal, so these are somes bands that I get made fun of liking. (some of which some ppl will not include as "rock" but for time it was more than some would handle) ZZ top, GnR, haha may not be rock but I like brass in pocket by Pretenders, um I like maybe one or two by linkin park but I think they are sellouts who are already trying to reinvent themselves.:o

techno is underrated and disliked by many for no reason. they probably heard techno, which would be similar to like nu-metal in metal.

i find alot of metalheads like techno, i suppose its because they both have a good hard heavy beat....accept that electro pop shit.
I hate techno. I don't like all those electronic noises and everything. I even dislike bands that have just keyboards in them.....unless it's done really well.
To me it looks too modern and computerized.......i'm not big on technology, and computer know-how and what have you. All this new techno stuff to me just seems like a bunch of computer noises made into a song. Not really my cup of tea.:)

I like alot of stuff.. after being around techno for the last 3 years it's really grown on me.. I used to listen to moby/orbital/lords of acid 7 years ago.. that came from me listening to industrial stuff and experiementing with other electonic music.. that's what i grew up on was really old school industrial.. my neighbor was a freak and got me into it when I was really young.. that's where most of my music tastes come from.. metal and electronic.. Industrial is the perfect meld of both worlds.. But I enjoy listening to alot of 80's stuff and disco I really dig disco.. funk.. I like some folk.. Ani Difranco.. I have 2 of her cd's.. I'm really big into the rat pack.. they're the shit.. I like alot of lounge..the only thing I don't like is country.. I have zero country cd's or mp3's.. and I never will.. my dad is in a country band and I can't stand it.. there are maybe 5-10 old country songs that I would consider downloading.. (I really like the movie Urban Cowboy.. sorry) But i'm not ashamed.. I was afraid to admit it.. I mean c'mon.. this a metal forum and some of you guys come off as some pretty hardcore metal guys ..and when I posted my playlist I figured you guys would flame the shit out of me for it..
You guys don't know me at all.. and I know that.. and i'm the new kid around here.. and I know that too.. But you guys seem really cool.. and that's why I registered and started posting.. I really dig metal.. and have for a long time.. I'm really big into Thrash/Melodic Death stuff.. that's my favorite..and I only recently (about a year ago) started getting into extreme vocals and stuff.. I never really gave it a chance.. I didn't think I'd like it.. but I go in spurts with music.. i'll go months listening to nothing but metal... and then for a couple days I won't listen to any and i'll listen to everything else I have.. and seeing you guys admit that you like other stuff reallly doesn't make me feel like I have to hide the fact that I listen to the other stuff I do..
And I just wanted to say.. I was afraid that you guys were going to flame the shit out of me and no one would talk to me anymore.. I'm not a new guitarist.. I'm self taught and have been playing on and off for 8 years.. But I quite for 2 years because I was frustrated and have just started getting back into it about 6 months ago.. And you guys have been more helpful in the few weeks i've been around here in the 8 years that i've been playing.. I'm a hell of alot faster and better than I have ever been I have you guys to thank.. with all your suggestions you give to everyone.. I just wanted to say that.. So thanks.. I'm glad you guys are here and appreciate your help.. Take it easy

The last few posts were the typical nu-metal bashing type of stuff that you can read in so many different places here. One thing it's always had in common is that it usually takes over the actual topic subject, and sometimes we all end up in arguments. To avoid this, I got rid of the past few of them.
Any of you who don't like this can either avoid doing it, or face the consequences of pissing someone off who has a lot of free time and power over this part of the forums.

i got a ton of so-called "guilty pleasures", those being bands i dont usually openly admit listening to, like maroon 5, early hawthorne heights, tacking back sunday, panic! at the disco, and shit like that. but they really arent guilty pleasures, i like them, nd if you dont like them, whoopie fucking doo.

the madisyahu guy is wierd, since i dont have a tv let alone cable i just assumed he was a jamaican black dude. so the guy has talent, but its textbook co-opting on a style of music associated with a distinct carribean culture, big no-no
funny thing is the ethos of rastafarism in general is a loose adaptation and interpretation of coptic christianity, which is ultimate related to modern israelis and jews. they have everything to thank the jews in regards to thr whole rasta religion, if you can call it one. they are all big on the lion of judah, zion, tribes of israel, thewhole babylonian exodus metaphor for thier situation. stuff based off the jewish religion

i really like eminem's old material. sure, many rappers have spoken about murder in earlier rap cds, but the imagery in "the slim shady lp" and "marshall mathers lp" are just untouchable. the first time i heard the song kim (granted i was a young kid), i was actually scared. that takes fuckin talent......to make the listener feel like they are being abused by a drunk and violent asshole.
fuck the new shit, but eminem's old tunes kicked major ass.
other rap that kicks much ass:

Tupac (especially songs like Hit 'em up)

some Jay-Z
some 36 mafia (they are just so fuckin ghetto..'specially gangsta boo. what a bitch)

I'm always embarrases to say that I listen to Dragonforce. Most people think they are extremely gay, but personally they have musical talent besides playing a million miles an hour.
If you're in a metal band and you just happen to be gay, it's cool because you're in a metal band! Metal= tight leather pants and bludges showing!
I think Dragonforce need to pay more attention to what they're playing rather than acting crazy on stage. I saw this one video of them playing live. Their tuning was.... odd. They were in tune, but it wasn't the same tuning as it was on the album. They were playing "Through The Fire and the Flames," and either they were playing in a different key, or in a different tuning. If it's the latter, I wonder if they even paid attention to it or meant to do it that way.
Nevertheless, they could have played better instead of acting like a bunch of Norma Jean rejects; the bassist overdid it and tripped and fell. Herman, it looks like, is laughing at him. The guitar solos didn't sound too good either. Definitely a studio band, in my opinion.

No Doubt is a solid band with a definitive and original sound, no doubt about it (sorry, I had to). I can't say too much for Gwen's solo shit, though...

Older COF isn't that bad. The new shit is just that, shit.
I've developed a love of old school, horror, street, Oi, and hardcore punk over the last couple years. I even played bass and sang for a hardcore/horror/ska-ish punk band.
I have every album of Leftover Crack, The Cockney Rejects, The Damned, Black Flag, The Bad Brains, The Dead Milkmen, and Reel Big Fish. I also have The Misifts box set. It's not every album, but it is all the older stuff.

I like everything up to Midian. I don't care much for Bitter Suites, some songs on Nymphetamine are okay, and Thornography sucked. But that's just me.

Midian is my favorite.
I don't listen to them as much as I use to, I find it hard to listen to them now. I used to be quick to defend them when it came to the black metal/goth metal issue. Now I realize with every album they become less black metal and more goth metal. Thornography is completely goth metal with no hint of black metal influence and it's just so watered down and pathetic. I used to look over the popularity they gained with Nymphetamine, now I can't and I lost interest in them quickly. Midian is still a classic along with their older stuff. When Gian left they went to shit.

I am so embarrassed to say this.......... Teddy Geiger. I can't help it, I joined this site called Mozes.com (www.mozes.com) and happened upon him. He reminds me of another guilty pleasure John Mayer. But in my defense, it was pretty cool to be able to text him and the free backdrop for my phone was a nice perk.
I like Irish punk
Flogging Molly and what not
Incubus is prety cool too.

They add a lot of Irish Folk elements to their music. They have a song called Soon We'll Be Dead which is an irish drinking song. It's one of my favorite songs of theirs and The World/Inferno Friendship Society appears in it. I have to hear it and Rock the 40 oz everytime I drink.

They're from New York City and Dropkick Murphys is from Boston. So I guess you could say they're Irish like Dropkick Murphys, just not as prominent.
