View Full Version : new Darkest Hour
this is one of the stupidest advertisements for a CD i've ever seen.... none the less, this album is absolutely going to dominate. Best of 2005, im calling it...

No way. Cd's that are better:
Porcupine Tree- Deadwing
Nile- Annihilation of the Wicked
Dredg- Catch Without Arms
Mors Principium Est- The Unborn
Dark Suns- Existence
I just don't think any of this "new age gothenburg" stuff will ever reach the same caliber of ATG, and old In Flames :(
EDIT: I'll definately give it a fair listen when it comes out though

it will neverbe able to compete with the red in the sky is ours or lunar strain... but what the fuck will?
New Age? Darkest Hour has been around for 10 or so years smartass.
And they are far more diverse then any gothenburg band, no one sounds like Darkest Hour, sure their melodic.. but they also throw alot of hardcore and thrash into their stuff.
And dont blame Darkest Hour for the shitty advertisement, Ryan said "do not hold us accountable for the slogans set forth by a one victory records..."
from the 4 1/2 seconds of music they play It sounds good.

Hah Victory Records is claiming that it will be the best cd of the decade :D

it does sound awesome, very similar to hidden hands tho...
"So Sedated, So Secure" is their best album by far, I fuckin' hope this tops it.
[edit]
I probably on said that because I'm listening to it non-stop at the mo' in a bid to tab all in the next week. 3 out of 8 in two days ain't bad....not including "Bear Huntin"....which is fuckin' hilarious.
Yeh, Victory Records are idiots... they sign whatever they think will sell, no reguard to the quality of their acts. I really hope Darkest Hour signs to a new label soon.
Being on a label with the likes of Atreyu, The Black Maria, and Comeback kid cant be very good for their image.. I mean I would just pass them off as another shitty emocore band if I didnt know any better.
And "Mark of Judas" is my favorite, it defines their sound.. but all their releases have been great... I cant wait to hear Kris shred it up on this album.

Fuck that. The vocals are shite.
Aqquired taste indeed.. but no worse then At The Gates or any other screaming band, I actually find it easier to understand John then most high pitched screamers.
yea, the vocals are definitely something to get used to with DH. When i first heard them i was like what the fuck... but the music caught me, and eventually i learned to like the vocals
"Bear Huntin"....which is fuckin' hilarious.
Were goin' bear huntinnnnnnn USA.

I'm glad someone said that.,While I do like Darkest Hour there are so many bands that sound like that to me.DH is still kick ass though.

That was my first thought. I think it's safe to say the preview was way overblown in scope unless it was supposed to be funny. I don't recall At The Gates defining the last decade either.

i hope a finished version of this one song i heard by the guitarist of the band is on the CD
Which song did you hear? Was it on his Instructional DVD?

they sure as hell did define their kind of music though....
the Metallica reference is because of DH's heavy thrash influence
The ATG reference is because of DH's heavy gothenburg influence

I love At The Gates, especially the vocals. Darkest Hour have slightly different vocals, but enough for me to not like them.

each to their own man...i love the DH vocals...
I think the vocals add an extra element to their sound....

Im still waiting for his solo cd to come out, he's a great song writer and the stuff he plays on his DVD is awesome.

Kaiser Rune i don't know if he is still a member I haven't seen him post in a long while...probably touring and everything.
on another note...I think At the Gates vocals are far better than most screaming vocals. He puts more emotion into the vocals than most. A definite characteristic of a superior vocalist i'd say.
