I just found another thread about this which had been closed... why? To help that dude out, you breath in as you do it.

Yes, its a real vocal style - and I need help on getting mine deeper! For those that havnt ever heard it I just did some then uploaded it, the link is at the bottom. It sounds shit coz I did it with my shitty computer mic, with a sm58 or something it sounds way more brutal.

https://toolbox.iprimus.com.au/application/download.asp?FileName=mp3%5Ccricket%2Emp3 -- If that doesnt work let me know and I'll try a different approach.

OK it seems I screwed that link up, heres another try - https://toolbox.iprimus.com.au/application/download.asp?FileName=%5Ccricket%2Emp3

let me know if that one fails too.

cheers

I saw no reason for the other thread to be closed. Perfectly legit question which hadn't been asked or stated before and you closed it.

Then that's my mistake--cause I thought it was stupid question, no one would know the answer, and it was silly in the first place. This one is open, and it's the same question. Happy?

Anyone know how I can post the link to the cricket? I have 20meg free webspace with my ISP and I hosted it with that, but cant seem to get it up :(

Just incase it doesnt work, some bands that do alot of it are Born Headless and Corpse Carving. Psycroptic do a little bit of it too - though its hard to know what it is until you know what you're listening for.

No, he's talking about that croak style vox from bands like putrid pile, and Dyscrasia. If you can do normal guttural vox, then you can probably do the cricket vocals, but I dont know why people do them so much, they sound stupid when they're over used.

I can do normal gutteral screams, but i cant get this cricket thing at all, i know what to listen for, and have heard them, but i have no idea at all how to do them, lol, ive tryed plenty of things to, could somebody elaborate?

17 replies and you still can't figure it out?
Either nobody knows--as we have already implicated, or nobody cares. Both of those sound right to me, so maybe try another site that has a vocal zone....

The basic technique I use to get my frog/cricket vocals is to get the sides of my gums to flap because of all the air coming out... Or you can do them the lame ass super quiet falsetto way, but you'll need a compressor for that to be able to hear it, if you do normal loud vocals too.

Hey man, thanks! Somebody whos actuallty helpful here, haha, seriouslly though i really appreciate it, i can do that falsetto way, but like you said its real weak, ill see what i can do with the gear i got, and work on it, thanks!

I've been trying to figure it out.....mainly what has been successful is doing it similar to a normal gutteral, but curling back my tongue to the roof of my mouth, and tensing my throat. Kinda working...gotta perfect it more,

This is true. I find it ironic that your username is from a band that uses primarily "weee weee" vocals on that album though.

Yeah but back then Disgorge was ahead of it's time. There's nothing like the originals is what I always say. Nowadays every other band is doing it. Hardly any originality left these days. What a bummer.

well....you guys should check out retch and saprogenic....awsome vox on that shit........retch has one guy that does all inhales...which i classify as the frog vocals....then another thing im used to labeling is the Gutteral vox style....which...you hear crickets in of course..but also...that super saturated Gore-heaven gurggle...which i do exhaling....i would say if you have problems with anything...you should try relaxing and finding a sound you can easily accomplish...there are many gore/death/grind vocalist with amazing and different ranges of shit...another good suggestion.....Goratory....that dude has gotten really insane on their new cd rice on suede............another option: never be affraid of joining the dark side and using a pitch shifter...GOREgrind is where it's at.

They don't have to like pitch shifted vocals or any other sort of abstract noise that people make with their throats. Nor do I think there is much point in discussing pitch shifter technique.

As far as noisy vocals go, Circle of Dead Children gets the A+

i'd say the kill does, not having heard CODC.

as for pitch shifters, i believe they should be in the gear forum. (not too sure though)

there are quite a few goregrind bands which use good vocal effects like retch, gut, cbt but not all are good...the effects ldoh used to use were shit

retch doesnt use any vox effects.......their pretty anal about letting people know that...........My personal favorite "effect" goregrind band is CBT...they def have the most toilety sounding shit ive herd.

My favorite "fake" vocals are the drummers from Bodies Lay Broken, so obscure and synth sounding, I laugh. And not liking dumb gory lyrics without a well thought out structure (like Cannibal Corpse, for instance...) is not "weak", it's just common sense.

Hmm this thread has taken off since I was last here, I do them inhaling pretty wicked now, how do you do them gutterally? I mean I can do normal gutterals but my crickets are pretty poo. I dont get that flap shit happening, any suggestions?

id like to do both gutrot and putrid pile style shit, or go really high and get twitch of the death nerve down.

Yeah, what I do for "guttural" crickets is do my normal "O" vowel sound gutturals then add an "Reee" sound to them.... they are pretty crickety, but some people might call them pig squeels.
