in my opinion, one of the best singers ever. now i dont want to copy him, because id probably sound like a retard or the dude from Godsmack (a retard), but does anyone know how to do the vibrato like that at such a low octave? is there a technique i need to learn? anything that can be put into words?

Yeah, it's pretty hard to copy that guy. I don't think he's using vibrato, I think he's just puching air in and out. Vibrato is when the "pitch" waivers over a tone(above and below it). Layne's doesn't really do that, so he probably just uses a weird amount of air.

when doing longer notes, its better to crecendo and decrecendo a bunch, not a shit load, but it conserves air. makes good for styling as well.

On songs such as Godsmack...where Layne's voice does a vibrato thing...it's actually a vocal effect...I was surprised to see how many bands used these effects...Mostly vibrato and delay...I think the stones were the first...but vocal effects are relatively cheap...try it out
