diminished and minor chords work, try using 1/2 steps for more of a dark feel.

Playing major stuff with a few twists works sometimes...

for the top one on ASSASSIN651's post, that can be transcribed to anywhere on the fretboard, so long as it is always one down and one across, e.g.

----- . -----
----- . --4--
--9-- . --3--
--8-- . --2--
--7-- . -----
--6-- . -----

either of them would work

I could let you in on my "secrets," but then a million other bands would sound like me. So, no.

Sorry chap. Just experiment like I did.

STRECH? Maybe if you are a pussy. Jeez. I've played notes together with 5 frets between.

Stretch he say.... ;)

I posted onto a thread like this awhile giving random combonations. I find diminished and augmented to be quite "dark". Anything with the devil's tritone (1, b3, b5) is pretty dark... b5 is pretty dark alone. Eh, stick with power chords I'd say unless you are doing arpeggios or something. Best thing to do is just experiment. Fuck theory.

you can actually make up chords yourself using these structures, since there are alot of wierd ones and metal that arent classified aa anyhing, like:

l---0--l
l---2--l
l---3--l
l---4--l
l---4--l
l------l

i think bathory uses this one...

used this one in a song i wrote...a very decent attempt at writing a black/death song...the whole riff went like...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------7------8------7----
---------------------------0-------------------------------------------
-----------2----------3------3---3--------5----5------5------5------5--
